The screen going blank is a common problem on the Nokia 3315. My experience with Nokia's is that they are only made to last 3 years.
Don't bother fixing it, if you want a cheap phone go to Cash Converters, Happy Hockers etc.
I threw out my 3315 and bought a Sony K500i. It has it's good points and bad points.
The good points are:
1. Large screen that's easy to see.
2. Has a large memory to store ring tones and mp3s
3. Loud volume
Bad points:
1. The connections for charging and hands free is pathetic (what were they thinking?)
2. You can't charge the phone and have a ear piece in at the same time (see point 1)
3. The buttons are too small for a man to use
4. You can't supply your own message alert.
It sounds like I'm bitching but I actually do like my phone and would probably buy another Sony.
