My father , Grandfather & Gt Grandfather always used a "sheep-shank"

My Gt Grandfather had Bullock teams originally going from Sydney through to Wast Wyalong carting freight , then when the rail line got to Goulburn , carted from there . If anyone remembers the Old Steel Bridge at Yass , he carted that , even got held up by Ben Hall (bushranger , Grenfell) in the late 1800's

My father & Grandfather had a farm till 1970 and they all used a sheep-shank , so I was taught the same . Dad used to tie down wool bales 3 high on the truck , No problems , but the site it's a No-No .

I stopped using them when I got Nylon rope , but with the old Hemp rope , never lost a load ,

But very interesting site .
