With the use of good tuning of the VVT system, FI can be applied even with 11:1 satic ratio and modest boost. This is what the guys are finding right now over in the states.

Will need more time to really see how durable they will be though, but, food for thought, with IVC at 0 degrees you have 11:1, with IVC at 50 degrees you have ~9.5:1 (pretty much where FPV's static CR is with F/I).

Now this is only looking at one aspect of the tune, it's very simplistic and is not accounting for the consequences of also having the intake valve OPEN later (since duration is fixed)... but it's something to think about and probably something that can help with achieving higher static CR in conjuction with FI.
