Duff,
While you may think $35k is not much and that the job is not what you are after, you do not have any/much experience.
Working for a company like GE is a great start in your career.
They are huge and would have a massive staff churn because of the nature of their business.
Have a look around at your bosses and find out how long they have been working for the company. You may find the 3 years line is standard, when it is more likely less than 2 years for progression.
A mate of mine works for DELL and has gone from lackie to team leader of 20 staff in under 12 months because people keep leaving above him.
If you stick at it and get chummy with the people higher up the management chain, you will go up faster. Be good at your job and make sure they know you are degree qualified and more than able to take on more tasks.
If after 12 months you are going nowhere, you will have over 12 months experience and more likely to get a better job with someone else.
