Euro VI is coming for Australia in 2024, so maybe its a precursor to them icing the turd rolled in glitter 1VD-FTV 4.5L V8? I'm not sure if they want to spend spondoolies on getting it up to scratch for Euro VI, its going to be hard one suspects.
Given how they just upped its GVM to move it into a different vehicle category to avoid the side impact safety regulations, wouldn't surprise me if the 2.8L Hilux job is to extend the life of the platform.
