These are very much considered a bit of a granny plant. We rarely have them stocked at the nursery due to low demand. Which is a bit of shame because these shrubs are very drought and frost hardy. The flowers appear in late winter before the foliage develops.
I suspect their relative lack of interest when not in flower and the fact they are deciduous accounts for their lack of popularity. Flowering Quince are best suited to a more eclectic garden where they will blend into the background when not in flower.
