New car stock would be a massive contributor to this.
As far as bans go - it does happen and is usually sparked by dealers rather than the manufacturer themselves. Hyundai for instance, if you look up new car stock you'll find an "Indicative drive away price".
Carsales also has practically every version of a car, model and colour selections listed on carsales whether the car itself exists or not. This has been a very frustrating thing for dealers as we get leads generated on these 'generic ads' that we have to pay for even though we cannot supply the car.
