Default Daniel Morcombe

Guilty verdict!

What is surprising is Cowan's previous extensive criminal history - what a total disgusting low life grub. Will be a very long custodial sentence.

Coppers to be congratulated in pursuing and prosecuting the case.

RIP Daniel.

Spot on, both of you.

Here's hoping for life in jail with no parole for the scumbag.

Yep, but the thread would be locked if we wrote what we know Cowan deserves, it wouldn't be quick nor painless that's a given.

Make you wonder why we bother with such people, honestly what a waste of resources; there's a way to drop our global emissions.

As a parent this kind of stuff makes me sick.

I don't think anyone could comprehend the feeling of relief that this young mans parents would have felt today, a gasp of air after 11 years.

This case has always raised the hairs on my neck when ever an update or development was aired.
Fair dinkum, these two people would have to be the strongest willed people in the country, to fight for all these years, never giving up.

If I was going into battle id want the Morcombe's on my side.

Rest now young fella.

It would have been better if the coppers did not try to 'coerce" a "yes, I did it" out of Cowan in the hotel, it would have given no doubt in my mind.

His history is chequered, yes, and so are the two other paedophiles that supposedly one of them told him the location of the body.

Good luck to the Morcombe family, I hope they can move forward with this legacy

Says that he's already looking to appeal. I work in the court system and its all for the guilty party. He's been found guilty fair and square and wants to get off on a technicality. Makes me sick.

I hate to think what he has cost the QLD government, and what he will cost us as tax payers over the next 15+ years.

Very happy for the Morcombes and all involved, they got the outcome they had worked so hard for.

And when you want to be a gangster in a gangters world, talking to the head of the gangsters, what would you do to become one??

Tell them that you are a child killer to give you some street cred...............

It would have been better if the coppers had got the confession in another way and not by trickery.

Just my 5 cents worth

Well said Bent_8, what Daniel & his parents went through is a crime against humanity imo, his parents deserve a aom for their contribution to the community & for having herculian strength in dealing with every parents worst nightmare.

Maybe there could be a dedicated law (Daniel's Law?) dealing with heinous crimes of this nature, i would definately support the dp on this one.

cheers, Maka

I just hope the Queensland Government and Legal system are as staunch with the sentence as the Morcombe's have been in seeking it.

These people have suffered enough for 10 lifetimes.
They should be able to have closure now and enjoy what time they have left, dedicated to the memory of their beautiful son and free from the burden of retrials and parole hearings.

In this case and cases like it, life should mean life and be the minimum sentence on offer.

Just got sentenced. Life with 20 years before he can apply for parole.

Hopefully they will never grant him parole.

I hear you. The comments from the sentencing magistrate about the crime being abhorrent etc (which it was) and then he dishes out a life sentence with a non-parole period. Life in this case should have been life, end of story.

He's a sick animal and should be put down. With a past like his why should he be allowed to continue on living. And life should be life as when he gets out, he'll still be able to pray on children, look how old Dennis Ferguson was.

I was reading something this morning (before he was sentinced) that said as the crime was committed in 2003 he is sentinced under the laws and penalties that apply then and back then the maximum he could receive was XWY (I think what he got)

I have to say I thought the jugde worked with that they had quite well in saying

I am able to set a parole eligibility of later than 15 years, which is statutory minimum.

Judge also states; Appropriate to set non-parole period of 20 years. Not to say I'm of the view you should be released after 20 years.

Most telling comment from the judge was; For the ofence of murder the only sentence available is life So, three charges, life on murder, 25.5 years across the three charges. No parole until 20 years served, although the judge seemed quite reluctant to admit to that part.

Parole will not a certainty after 20 years if this comment in sentencing from the judge is heeded; Whenever anyone is considering the prospect of your rehabilitation, they should consider my words. You are a convincing liar.

Shockingly he was released on parole years ago for molesting and nearly killed a 6 year old, and the judge at the time only gave him something like 2 years jail because "he had good prospects of rehabilitation". FFS.

From all reports he had been doing these sorts of things since he was 9, when he used to force other little kids into the changerooms at his local pool and sexually assault them. He is truly a ****** up piece of **** with a long history of doing this sort of stuff. Hopefully he ends up like Julian Knight and never gets released.

About time one of them got it right, kind of. Usually they both fail, miserably. If he ever gets released, wonder how the Judge or Parole Board will feel if there was a slight chance he could be placed living in their street?
