Thumbs down Sacking staff for planking at work.

Well it had to happen sooner or later. Woolwoths sacking some of their staff for planking at work. Listening to Nova radio station this morning and had to laugh as they seemed to brush off the severity of it due to the fact one of the guys was only planking on some milk crates.Bet the guy that jumped into the surf and broke his neck didnt see it coming either. They dont get the fact that if these guys injure themselves or some one else, that the company are liable for it. Any company pays high enough premiums for injuries sustained at work as it is with out nobs doing this sort of thing. Then guess who pays for it at the checkout.
Already cases of people seriously hurting or killing themselves as a result.
Plankers are just ******* as far as I am concerned.
Find something more constructive to do.

Your thoughts

Good, at least they might realise that they're being paid to do a job, not randomly lay on the floor...

I see today that the price of eggs in China are now stable and the rabbits are not getting through the wall they built to keep them out.

Much better topic of conversation than this planking rubbish!

They all need to plank on a couch with a professional to help them out of their obvious vertigo issues.

Ha ha ha, fired for planking.

I wonder what the actual written reason is for the dismissal.

They must have been breaching many times before. Your not allowed to just fire someone for a first time offence.

Incorrect, you can be 'told to leave' on the first offense, ive seen it first hand. If its severe enough it can happen

Never said it was severe, what i said was you can be 'sacked' on the first instance. I dont know these employee's history so i cant say if it was the first instance of not adhering to company policy.

Someone was on top of a meat grinder...

Another was two metres off the ground...on shelves

The other was on milk crates...

The first two...I'd have them out the door before they could get off it.

An employer has a responsibility to provide a 'safe working environment' for their staff, they don't care if it's 'a little bit of fun'...they care that it becomes their liability should something happen.

health and safety breaches can all result in instant dismissal, it is in the woolies code of conduct for good reason, they also need to instantly make an example of people to stop it in its tracks, its like trying to say to the police "this is the first time i drove three times over the blood alcohol limit endangering not only myself but everyone else around me, wont you give me three warnings before taking my licence?" Rules are rules written in black and white, don't like the consequences dont break the rules...

on a lighter note im quite a fan of endurance planking, i try to achieve at least 6 hours of it every night, unless a dont have time due to tandem planking

I did see that in the article...

I did some stupid crap as a kid, but I sure as hell wouldn't have been on top of a meat grinder pretending to be a piece of wood...my life wouldn't have been worth living if I'd been caught doing anything like that...and sacked because of it...I wouldn't have been able to sit down for a month or more.

The worst part is, they've possibly just screwed up their chances of getting another job, who wants to employ someone who has no regard for their own safety?

I think it's funny. It's even funnier that people get so worked up about it. If you don't like it ignore it.

The 3RD pic is actually a mate.

I work for said company and a 'memo' was issued as soon as this crap started so people were warned.
It is a breach of health and safety, simple.
