This thread isn't really necessary, but I had to get this off my chest.
Did any E Series Owners in Brisbane wash their cars on the long weekend, being the last days we can use hoses to wash our beasts? I did on Monday, and last night it just had to sprinkle from above and cover my EL in just enough water droplets to catch all the dust and dirt I can drive into. This really f***en s*** me. When we did have rain last year and the year before, this used to happen to me all the time. Did this happen to anyone else last night? With a cruise coming up this weekend, that s***'s just not funny. Also, I had to post this up. Can anyone tell me how to get the pic into the actual post? Like most other non-metro areas of Australia we (in Bendigo, Victoria) haven't been allowed to wash cars @ home for what seems like years. I only get away with it 'cos I use tank water ...
... if you were allowed to wash you car @ home until now, you've been VERY lucky ... |

tough?! when it comes to wasting water i'm a bit of a nazi so i don't really care that people cant wash their cars. put in a call to a mob called 'eco wash'. they clean your car without any water and do a beautiful job of it.

You can still wash your car, but it has to be by buckets...
To me it would seem easier if you duck down to the car wash place late at night, take your bucket.. use their water but your own products... The reason I said late at night is because the car wash here has said they won't actually mind people doing that as long as it isn't within their busy times (which would be anytime during the day or early evening).. I understand the water restrictions etc but seriously... The government is still allowing houses to be built, which means more people moving to Queensland... More water hassles... now, that makes a lot of sense -- doesn't it just????!!!!

i'm sure those plastic water tanks aren't that hard to move if you had to move it. Might be something to think of for myself too. Anyone know the price of them?

Not sure of the price on the plastic tanks.
To be honest, I'm not sure where you can get the plastic style ones either. Steel ones on the other hand, I could reel off a few places where you can get them. Quote:

you can buy a bucket i think from meguirs that has a tap fitting on the side at the bottom costs about $20 for the bucket
you then buy certain models of karcher or superworks or some other brand pressure washers and they connect to the tap fitting on the bucket so you fill the bucket then use the karcher to give you pressure again and it still remains totally legal.. good luck guys

Last time I checked, a 3 block modular rainwater tank with stand was around $300, and take about as long to remove as it takes you to replace a storm water pipe and carry the tank away. Attach a high pressure washer, and away you go.
Oh, and that newspaper clipping, pure gold! I've been saved more than once by reminding cops with an attitude problem they should have their hi-vis jacket on when within 1.5m of the road.

That's genious blackers10! Ridiculous that you need to go that far to do the same job, but genious. I saw on a show last year the comparison between using buckets and using a trigger hose. They timed the length the trigger hose was on for while washing the car then filled buckets for that same amount of time afterwards. The trigger hose ended up using 3½ buckets as opposed to using 12 actual buckets for the same wash. It's ridiculous that you can't at least use your trigger hose to wash your car, but then people without cars will ask why they can't use the same vloume of water on their garden/lawn.
I can see the problem now will be tanks. It hasn't really rained enough this year for a tank to be useful. As far as I know, t's still legal to top up your pool with tap water. What's to stop people from running a hose from thier pool to their dry tanks, watering the garden with the tank water then topping up the pool? That's just one of many sly possibilities. When I can afford it I get my car washed with Nowet, which sounds very similar to Eco Wash, which uses no water and waxes your car at the same time. But my main gripe here was after the year so far having no decent rain, the sky decided to sprinkle a few hundred droplets onto my car after just washing it, making it look dirty once again. Not good on dark paint, not good before a cruise. |

You'll be suprised by how much water you can catch with the whole roof of your house connected to a rainwater tank. 5mm of rain on a 5m x 6m shed is still 150 litres, more than enough for a carwash.

We dont have water restrictions but we have "permanent water conservation strategies". Which, whilst sounding very bullty, makes more sense to me... putting the QLDers onto "stage 3" water restrictions suggests that they will one day remove the restriction... but i dont see the water situation ever getting permanently better??
