Not much, at $42K its very good buying. I'd put down 41.5K and go from there.

It's 43K. Do you think there is $1500 movement on it?

You wont know until you ask the sales manager I suppose. Why not offer them $38K and see how badly they want to move it?
You can always come up!

hmm undriven demo with 1900 kms on it, interesting sales technique, dude there is more than $15k in, go and plonk down an offer of $38k, make a final offer of $40k (as long as it is not a subject to finance contract), get them to throw in something for getting you to move up and if they dont want to play ball, say well ill fill out the contract now with my offer of $40 open for acceptance by the dealer principal before close of business Friday (tell them otherwise you will be buying somewhere else on Saturday) and I reckon it will be yours Saturday

Yeh offer them 38 kay drive away but you have to be ready to sign a deal... Otherwise they wont negotiate with you.

Id say youll get it for the 41 kay mark.

Exactly. Tell them you are ready to buy. Start negotiations lower than you actually are prepared to pay and come to the middle ground somewhere near where you actually want to pay and use the fact that you were prepared to move from your initial offer to get things like a tow bar, floor mats or what ever else you think you might need that it hasn't already got as a bargaining tool.

Its got everything that I want. I was more interested in knowing that if what they said is true. How they wont move on price. Is that utter bull?

What build date is the car? Is that a pre-euro 4 intercooler? (ally instead of plastic ends)

Yes I believe so. When I went to see it I looked for the plastic ends on the intercooler. I couldn't see any. Build date is march or may 2010 I think.

Not saying that's a bad thing (intercooler)... But it does mean the cars just on a year old?

Yer it was the Managers car. He still drives it. It has 2000km on it now I think. All the more reason for them to go lower in price

Thats up to them, it's up to you how strong you make the point that you wish to "buy" today. Not moving on price is just another sales technique, decide whether or not you want the car at full price and then start negotiating, rop in price, mats, tint, towbar, free tank of fuel, service discounts etc, etc.

Yeah, you just have to go in and say, "I'm not here to stuff you around. I am here to buy today but I am not happy with the sticker price. I was thinking more along the lines of $X". They might come back with "We can't sell it to you for that, how about this $x. Or if they then say that they are not willing to negotiate, then raise your offer to where you are happy as long as you aren't uncomfortable with that price.

If you can't come to an agreed price that you are happy with, then be prepared to walk. There are other cars out there. Maybe exactly what you want isn't there at the moment but next week it could be.

Saying there is no room to move on price is just a salesman technique.

It probably is undriven. By the public. Only driven by the manager.

Mate, without sounding biased... Go for a 50th turbo.
They have heaps more stuff standard than what your looking at!
Eg:... Whoops (non turbo! )

When you agree on a final price, they will walk off to 'refer it to the manager' where they will sit in his / her office and watch you sweat for 5 or so minutes...

They will come back asking for 'your help to get it over the line' and add another few hundred to the last price.

If they do this, stand up and walk away.. it is a very, very common ploy because most won't be arsed to go through the whole 'experience' again at another dealer.

Also... when the salesperson mentions ANYTHING regarding the car that has a bearing on your purchasing decision, WRITE IT DOWN to the word and have both yourself and the salesperson sign the paper.

If they bluff you off then it's all lies.

You will be amazed how much of the conversation can be 'forgotten' come delivery time. Trust me......

Thumbs down Re: Quick help on Price before I buy today

Hi guys went to the dealer. Stated I was prepared to buy the car today and fill out paperwork. I said the only thing that had to change is the price. He then stated. No movement in the price no mater what. I told him the car was a year old and it was a euro 3. He said that doesn't mater and I walked away. Pretty pathetic service if you ask me.

Hey thats the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. They are in the business of selling cars though not simply displaying them, so if you are really keen on that particular car, go back next Thursday and try again. Next Thursday is that last day of the month. If they have had a slow month then they might budge.

Otherwise keep looking!

Why? Because he didn't let you screw I'm over?

Maybe it's not worth "giving" it away.

He wouldn't even take 500 off. I think that's just stubborn as people always expect some movement. The car has been for sale for 2 months now

They sure do. They did that to me when I picked up my new car a few weeks ago. I knew what I wanted to pay and they said they couldn't reach it. Was halfway out the door before they called me back.

I'd maybe wait a couple of days, end of month they want to move as much stock as possible. I went in at 4pm on the 28th of Feb and before 5pm I had a new car at the price I wanted to pay.

Sorry we have nothing in stock like what you are looking for at the moment. Closest is a G6ET 50th or an F6 ute. Price is a little too far away from the XR. Being a demo and a euro3 makes it pretty cheap.

Being a luxury pack makes it hard to bargain on.. if it was a standard XR6T with cloth then they would probably move on it more!!
