i'm in the coal mines.

depending on where you're based, there's plenty of work going in mines mate. your qualifications will help, but they're taking just about anybody...

Coal mining: there's work going in the southern district (wollongong), and a lot of new investment up around gunnedah & narrabri. also think there's work going in the hunter too.

you may find you need to do the generic 4 day induction course run by the mines rescue service. costs about $1400.

google these companies mate:

RUS Mining
Walter Mining
Delta SBD
SSS Mining services
Valley Longwall

that should get you pointed in the right direction. also try calling the closest mines rescue station to you and ask for a list of contractors if they have one?

feel free to ask me any questions you have mate.

What i have found is that they wont even look at you without the generic induction course. Also seem to be more about who you know not what you know. Just my opinion in my attempt to get into the mines.(I have plant tickets and truck licence as well). Probably doesnt help with where i want to work either. Good luck with it anyways mate.

the course will be tax deductable.

there was a company advertising for clean skins (new to mining industry) last weekend. i didn't check the paper this weekend yet.

as HI PSI said, there are jobs around, you just need to be committed to putting in the leg work. those companies i mentioned are by no means the only ones around, just a few i could think of off the top of my head. they're only underground coal mining companies too. there's other sorts of mining around including ore mining out Parkes way and of course broken hill.

good luck.

Contact GWS employment services in Parkes Tel.0268626061 and make some enquiries in regards to gaining employment at NorthParkes mine.
They do all the hiring and firing and give many cleanskins a start because they cannot retain good people;they go elsewhere such as Hunter Valley or Cadia @ Orange.
The money is terrible @ NorthParkes and you will be casual but at least it is a start in the industry. Have been told they only pay $23/hour casual underground;thus high turnover of good good employees.

I want to go mines (along with almost everyone else) I was looking at stores/purchasing. I have considerable experience dealing with suppliers, ordering stock, sending direct to clients etc. I am an extremely fast worker etc. I don't even know where to start in relation to applying, but I certainly don't have 1000's of dollars to do courses.

Got my mate I grew up with who is a contracts manager/ head of department but the only time he offers me work is when he is smashed and basically talking himself up and telling everyone else their jobs are pathetic and to come and work for him.

I am a Safety Officer for a prominant Cronstruction, Mining and Maitenance contractor here in Central Queensland.

There are plenty of things that you can do and there are alot of mines and contractors looking for employees.
Check the Mines Websites... Pick up the phone and call contractors and send every bloody employment agencies your resume and cover letter ...

If you want a job.. You will find one...

Over here in WA all the big names are screaming for people.

NRW, MACCA, Hamptons, to name a few.

I'm in fixed plant construction atm, over 10 yrs exp, middle management role, and I can tell ya, most of the plant operators here couldn't drive a greasy stick up a dogs backside.

this is why those claiming job losses will result from the mining tax and carbon tax are bulls1tting... mining is on an unprecedented boom and does not look like slowing anytime soon...

Yep, been in this game since 1997, some of the "HD Fitters " I try to train up have me wondering, do they actually have trade qualifications? I did my apprenticeship as a "Plant Mechanic"

With "cleanskins", they're expected to still have tickets and licenses though right?

Many mention "HR license", does syncro/non syncro matter?

Nah, syncro don't mean squat mate.

HR license, drug and alcohol, medical clearance, ( respitory, hearing eyesight etc) and youv'e got a leg and a torso in over here.

Most of the larger minesites in W.A require a min HR license to operate machinery and a VOC (verification of competency) before you will operate one.
Not sure what the minimum requirements are in other states tho.

Shot firers course would be beneficial for that Damo.
SFA to complete (unless you are a threat to Australia or a crim )

Above and underground positions available.

Check out the West Oz papers for drill and blast crews also.

Drillers offsiders and pit technician is another one to get into at entry level.

Not that I condone this type of activity but I know of a guy who's into explosives, and his group are always hiring I believe
