I have been labelled Un-Australian by a few people including my MUM for not wanting to don the increasingly popular plastic flag on my car.
I know it's great to be Australian proud but I refuse to buy a flag that says in small print down the spine "Designed In Australia made in Thailand" or "made in China" so us being Australian by purchasing one of these flags is effectively undoing some of what we are trying to promote. I mean lucky the Flag of Australia is designed in Australia that nade ne laugh my bollocks off. I think I am as Australian as they come. Born in Darwin before Tracey (Your Not A local up there unless you went through it apparently) I'm not a hair straightening, blow drying metro sexual ( I was Shocked guys own hair dryers that blew me away now I found out they own hair straighteners and can't go out in the rain or it wrecks the do). Don't eat hungary Jacks anymore as their potatoes come from Yank Farmers now. I know heaps of Kiwi Jokes.:voldar02: Drive a 68 Falcon wagon factory V8 of course. I even go food shopping with my Girlfriend and I am the one who wants to buy Australian made and owned not bloody Mckeins you've done it again frozen Broccoli from China or tinned food from Denmark. I don't buy Blundstones anymore as they are made in thailand or something now and sacked the local guys to reap more profits (Redback Steelcaps are Aussie owned and made it says so on the box oh and they are comfortable) But if you don't don the Chinese made Australian flag on your car for Australia Day and a month afterwards whoa look out. Thanks for reading from one Un-Australian to Another.

I laugh when people shout "Un Australian blah blah" but every Aussie flag they buy comes from China because they refuse to buy the more expensive one. |

As for the those friggin flags, I think they look daggy and prove nothing to me that could be positively thought of. But thats all part and parcel of living in this great free country, the ability to do and think what they and we are doing right now. |

The amount of drunken morons that came into work that were abusive and just down right disgusting makes me wonder what on earth this day is all about!!! Sure I went on an Australia Day cruise with AFF members but the way I see it is I pay enough of my wage to taxes to help those that don't work so that is about as Australian as I need to be. I don't need to buy a plastic flag made in another country that is probably going to scratch my paint anyway to be Australian........

My receptionists son is soooo Aussie, he had the southern cross tatooed on one arm, which is not unique. Then he goes and gets the harbour bridge tatooed on the other forearm :
Everytime I see him I take the ********. Initially he would call me a wog or some other term for an ethnic, as my parents aren't orginally aussie, or have a go at my religion, until I told him the charities I support and community events I participate in. So my line to all who regard that putting a tatoo on themselves or a flag up their tailpipe, that this achieves stuff all for the aussie community, and they should wake up and do something constructive than relying on symbols. Good on you by the way in being so careful on what you buy. |

You're not alone dogfish. I don't understand why people would want to fly an Aussie flag on their car that was made in China. You'll also notice that the majority of the cars that have these flags on them are imported themselves.
I'm another person who is very fussy about where a product comes from. 99.9% of the time I always buy Aussie made products unless it's a product that is not made here by any company (kitchen tidy bags for instance) I've even gone out of my way to get Aussie made cling wrap & aluminium foil. (It's VERY hard to find!) What does annoy me is when food products are imported & it's something that we produce here. Next time you buy peanuts or peanut butter, have a look at where it's made. There is a lot of stuff coming in from China now (especially generic products) More people need to stand up for themselves & support Aussie made goods. It helps our economy & most importantly, it keeps Aussies in jobs. Apologies if I strayed too far off topic. :O

If you pay tax, vote, dump your rubbish in your neighbours bin or don't give a damn about anything Tracy Grimshaw has to say, your Australian enough.

For some reason lately, people are trying to identify themselves more and more.
People with custom numberplates with their surname isnt good enough, they gotta add the year as well (IE MICK 89), flags and southern crosses are alot more common. I put it down to the facebook and myspace hype for that. I wouldnt call it un australian to not want to put up flags, though i wouldnt call it un australian to have them, regardless where the flags are made. Quote:
I feel being australian is doing good for the country, helping out your fellow mate and not letting differences affect our way of life.

I don't go the aussie flag or southern cross sticker on my car (or any sticker).
But what leaves me scratching my head is the Aussie Pride sticker on a foreign car (eg Mitsi lancer). If you were a proud aussie wouldn't you buy a commodore or falcon ? |

If you respect and are grateful for the people who have fought and/or died in wars serving their country, then that goes a long way. Unfortunately I think that over time, it may be forgotten...I hope I am wrong.
