Local fishermen's attempts to help by hooking a rope to a 4WD and trying to pull the ute out only made things worse, causing the vehicle to go under the water.
Eventually it was pulled clear.

Ouch kibibble..at least he probably has insurance. This is something I expect from an American hillbilly with his big pickup truck, not an Aussie ford driver.

Exactly, having up to 3 pedals (most probably only two) It can be confusing to know which one stops the car. Then there is that lever to add to the confusion, it's call 'HAND BRAKE'.

But how is the ute facing the opposite direction to the shore? I mean, the tray should be further into the water, not the engine!

The footage of it down here last night showed it being dragged out by the rear, so I'm guessing it was deliberately spun around to allow the towbar to be used to recover it. The first shot on the news showed the trailer and ute almost completely submerged with the jetski still attached and floating above it all...hehe

LOL THe heavy end (engine) will sink straight down and light end will swing in the current or wind

Maybe a pic of when it first went intro the drink would help. My guess is that it has floated around a bit after going in and that's when this was taken. I could be wrong, but the article does say he was reversing at the start of it all.

You might be right,
But it should be fairly easy to tell that the salt has attacked the whole vehicle, there wouldn't be much left on it that wouldn't give away the truth, and by the time it actually got to the auction's the tell tale sign's would be well and truely there.

Maybe the 4WD was across the river at the other ramp??? LOL.

It's probably coming out backwards because there is nowhere to easily attach a rope at the front.

Darwin Awards anyone? Sorry but it's more than just bad luck if your foot hits the accelerator instead of the brake - the guy's an idiot (well totally incompetent at the least) straight up, and don't make excuses for him.
