k code zd 4 speed

hi my name is gary i live south of perth and new to ford forum.
i have just purchased a shed full of cars.over 30 years of collection .amongst them are some zc & zd fairlanes.2 are k code one is a factory 4 speed toploader car unfortunately it the poorest condition of all the cars.i have been a ford man all my life an have never seen a 4 speed zd. can any body help me with production numbers ore any info on it.i will post photos of all cars next weekend as we get them out of there.

Gary is it a 4v Windsor powered, or Cleveland powered car?

the base mode poor mans pov pac zd came manual seen the odd one around over the years the real pov pacs were 6's too

Yes did see the odd 6 banger lane back in the day , haven't seen one for many years .

Might be wrong but I read that as 4 speed, K code, ZD?.............thought Clevo power started appearing in late ZCs

Just saying that it IS VERY POSSIBLE to have a toploader in a Fairlane ☺

I have heard of manual 6 cyl povo fairlanes but not factory built 4 speed 351's. Special order perhaps?

Not unknown for oddball specifications and options to come off the line back in those halcyon days where you could custom order cars more to your taste.

I'm not aware of them either, but that's not to say they weren't available.
Back in the 70's I owned a ZB 289, followed by a loaded ZD 351 auto, blue with white vinyl roof - a stunning car. Later, I also had a ZF 302 and at some time another ZD 302. I loved my Fairlanes.

Probably saying something pretty dumb here.............but was factory 302W in ZD still Y code or did it change to K code before the introduction of 302C?

All ZD Fairlanes were 302W I thought

A mate had a late 1971 ZD Electric Blue 302W and it was a Y code

351c was also used in ZD.............but just wondering if there was a late change in the ZD from Y to K for 302w. Looks like you have answered that dumb question though!............it would be good if OP can chime in and tell us what donk is in it.

I guess it does, being an actual advertised option there would have to be a few out there???

I was under the impression that 4 Speed 351 was not advertised as an available option but if you asked your dealer for one it could be arranged.

my understanding was that the clevelands in the fairlane and falcons xw-xy zc-zd were not so much special (but could be ordered) but more hit and miss as they were introducing the cleveland over these years and phasing out the windsor but things like the gt's and special orders got the priority on the motor others were more of luck

probably a silly question and more out of curiosity does the motor number match the one on the plate or has it at some time been changed

There is no mention of a 4-sp option in any ZD.

BTW, the 351 Clevo in the late ZCs, which replaced the Windsor, was it the 4V (T code) version, or the ZD (K code) 2V version ?

ZD model 351C were 2V K code motors..............gbw are these some of Darren's cars you have bought?

Sorry missed that................the Clevos fitted to both late ZC and ZDs were yanky spec 2V crate motors.
