Question Towbars

Hi all,

My AU2 Fairmont Wagon has a 2300kg Hayman and Reese tow bar. The sticker says towing capacity 2300kg, towball download 120kg.

Every tow bar I've had on my Falcons weather it be genuine Ford or Hayman Reese have always been the 10% rule of the tow capacity.

I'm just wondering why this one states only 120kg? Anyone know?

Thanks
James

Is that on the one sticker?
It should definitely be 230, but maybe it has a different tongue fitted?

If that's a genuine HR sticker, it should show the part number for the Towbar, and tongue if seperate.

Is it the typical Square "Hayman Reese" removable tongue?
Or is it a bolt on tongue?

not sure about au, but ef/el wagons had 2 different 2300kg towbar, one was 120kg ball weight the other 230kg, ive had both the only difference i could see was where the hitch came out, either through the factory bumper hole, or under the bumper

I thought it was the square tongue style that went through the bumper,
and the older style fixed tongue that came up from underneath.

If its a genuine Ford sticker, unfortunately, that is your limit, unless there is something in the owners handbook that states a different figure if a HD hitch is used.

I'd be a bit wary of towing 2t with only 5% ball weight.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Mine is the 50mm hitch with removable tongue that comes thru the bumper opening if that helps...

It has been known at times for ford to restrict towing capabilities with some models regardless as to what the tow bar rating shows, one such fine example is the Ford FG with manual gear box fitted with 2300kg tow bar being restricted to towing weight of 1600kgs.

In zlcrazy situation of having the genuine ford label stating 120kgs ball weight attached is a legal requirement that must be followed, just means he must balance his 2300kg load to conform to the label.

Obviously his model is not designed for a heavier ball weight.
