Bored of cars

Man - what do I do.

I feel bored with driving these regular cars. I can't be stuffed with the Falcon range anymore. I like the Fiestas however I'm not a fan of the bum dragging and the performance is not striking (yes i've driven them).

What do I want? A hot hatch or hot coupe, rear wheel drive, I guess 1.8 - 2.5L turbo'd and if it was to be 'new' less than $50k.

Currently the following cars are nicely in the list (all second hand):

Lotus Elise
Nissan 200SX
Toyota Supra RZ

I mean these are either 2 seaters or 'quasi' two seaters sports cars. Oh i'm not having a mid life crisis, i'm 27!

What else should I look out for?

There isnt many sub 2.5 litre RWD performance cars, a nissan something or other would probably be my choice, the supra's are damn expensive for what they are.

Nothing australian springs to mind. Skylines are good bang for buck but they are a skyline :(

How about an MX-5?

The guys over on performance forums love how they handle, Im sure they would go alright with some slight mods, is there a turbo variant?

Actually thats not a silly option. The locally (Tickford) produced Mazda MX5 SP turbo. 157kW and 280Nm of torque. That could be fun.

If you wanted to punch the engine size up to 3l grab a 300ZX TT. You wont be disappointed. Also a R32 or R33 GTR would be nice.

You're kidding about the 300ZX TT aren't you? Fat, slow, poor engine bay airflow, engine overheating problems, can't turn? Now the GT-R's I agree with though.

No way in hell am i kidding They are nice cars and got the performance to match. Great handling and braking. The engine bay i do agree about as mechanics will charge through the roof on labour.

4. 200sx
5. mini cooper s (supercharged version, have drivin one and they are very fun :hihi: )
6. skyline

really wouldn't worry bout the skidline, there a 6 anyway, the mini cooper is a bloody fun car and would be my choice if you were to just cruise around and have that heavy foot every now and then, but i would say go the supra there a dead set sex machine with the right body kit, and they go hard, never driven on personally but i have never heard a bad thing about them.

Buy that. 1998 R34 Nissan Skyline 25GT-t. RB25DET-Neo, 2.5litre DOHC 24v Turbo Inline-Six, RWD, 5-spd Manual. They were 206kW stock, 380ish Nm? Capable of high 13's stock, and handle quite nicely. Nice looking car, lots of mods available to it, and its not part of the Falcon range. And it meets all your criteria. That one seems like a good one too (There are some going for $26-$28k, but they're all modded) because its never been modified, which is getting difficult to find in the Skyline scene.

I would go the Lotus Elise... great handler.. Not so great for daily driving though! 200SX is a nice little car too and probably more sensibe if your wanting a comfortable car still..

haha buy my 350z Track then !!!!!! looks awesome, brembos/18's/leather etc as standard..
206kw stock, but can always add an APS twin turbo kit later on if you want more power..

Old school Porsche would be loads of fun and at least a bit unique! All the other suggestions are fairly reasonable and have their own merits (not a fan of the heavy 300ZX either). Only a few things that personally put me off Skylines: insurance, nearly every Tom, Dick and Harry has one (maybe not GT-R, but ya know what I mean). Renault Sport or whatever they are?

Two words, Ford Escort.

2L engine, RWD, decent diff ratio and reasonable gearing, around 900kg, handle better then a lot of newer cars, just add a turbo or supercharger if you want heaps of power, but they go suprisingly well for what they are stock...

Hmmm an 'old' porsche would be ripper.. though I bet finding one in good condition will be difficult and servicing expensive as.

300ZX Styling I don't mind - but not 100% on its performance.

GT-R I don't give two tosses about because I am just not caring about that level of performance.

I want something is going to be fun to spank the living crap out of on the weekend at a racetrack - or 1/4 mile and that is still 'reasonable' to drive.

Escort could be a nice idea... might research this some more.

How much are you looking at spending?
Do you still want some level of comfort or would you be happy with a nissan interior after dropping the BA?

They are comfortable cars otherwise i wouldnt of suggested it. If you want a comparison look sit in the 350Z. Its soo nice. Look im not goin to go out tommorow and buy one i was just offering an alternative.

$40,000 is pretty easy.

I don't mind the Nissan 200SX interior if that is what you mean? I haven't seen the inside of a 300ZX recently so I can't comment.

Yeah, EVO, but its $15,000 over my self imposed limit!

Your car is lovely Dan, but I couldn't do it... I want something else these days i find. I'm leaning towards the supra at the moment...

Then I would get the one that will give you the least problems out of the japanese turbo cars.

They would be good as daily drivers as well as the track. They come with decent brakes standard too which is handy.

Supra's seem to be about 30K for a 10+ year old model.

The other option could be to go older and cheaper and build the car to how you want it. S13's are cheap as chips nowadays and perform pretty well.

I couldnt bare to sell my car now anyways, its way too much fun at the moment. :eclipsee_

SCary thought - 1998 is 7 years ago!!! en hell.

But still - they look hot... and there are plenty of workshops for them in Australia and you barely need to touch some of the internals to get 600kw out of them....

Yep stock internals are apparently good to 600. Lol should of bought CDAAs supra although i dont know how much that was worth but sure looked nice from the pictures.
