flat shifting is when you keep your foot on the throttle whilst changing gears.
Clutchless shifting is different. |

As Damo said it is without taking your foot off the loud petrol, but it involves regular shift techniques (using a clutch). To a road car, this is mechanical abuse.
Clutchless shifting is different... this is also mechanical abuse, however it is designed to happen on certain race gearboxes which have a 'dog' engagement. There are no syncromesh teeth to chew out and the gearbox will require 'renewing' regularly however it is designed to withstand such abuse. You would not find a dog engagement gearbox on the street.

well flat shifting as has been stated, is where you keep your foot flat to the floor, slam the clutch in, change gears, let the clutch out and continue going about your business...
If done correctly, a miniscule advantage in time will be gained. As your revs are higher etc etc, but i dare say you could do the same thing by shifting at the right time in your RPM range where your making maximum torque.

flat shifting can't be too good... if i still floor it while taking my foot off the clutch it will just redline straight away. i think its best to just let off the accelerator a bit but still keep the revs fairly high while changing gears really quickly.. seems to work good for me drag racing.

if you are quick in gear changes.. The amount the revs go up are very small when flat shifting. but u have to be fast accros the gates, or you will bunce of the limiter all day..

That is the quickest way to distroy it. First learn how to drive with out the clutch by 'rev matching'. Flat shifting has no street value at all. Also as the throw of the shifter is too great for flat shifting and you will red line the motor. Also you don't go into neutral - flat shifting goes straight through! :eclipsee_
