Default EA Rocker Cover

I've managed to crack the rocker cover on my EA Wagon (3.9 CFI). Ford don't make the part any more, so it looks like I need to get one from a wrecker.

Do you know of any later models with the same shape rocker cover, or am I restricted to only getting a replacement from an EA?

I'd like to get a newer one if I can, maybe a different colour to the broken silver one I have got now....I've seen red and blue covers, what do they come off?

You can fit ea to ed without any problems. ef and el you can also fit but it has a different gasket and may leak a bit around the half moon shapes

Red covers came on XR6 models, blue covers have most likely been painted by people. Like me. I have an EF rocker cover on my EA, painted blue.
EF-EL rocker covers fit no problem, just put a bit of silicon in the half moons before you bolt it on.

What model followed the EA? You mentioned 3 models, the EL, ED and EF, which is the youngest car? I don't know in which order the cars were released after the EA.

Do you know if I will be able to pick up a new rocker cover for any of the above models, or will it be a scrap yard job?

Thanks

EA, EB, ED, EF, EL
You'll probably still be able to get an ED or EF cover new - but it'll be expensive. They are usually about $20 from self serve wreckers.

what is the sort of paint you would use to colour a rocker cover?

My guess over tightening the nuts that hold the rocker cover down, you either crack the rocker cover or crack/break a pedastal mount point.

Thanks for the replies....

Yeah I stupidly overtighted the nuts on the rocker cover...as I did the thing made a loud cracking sound, more like a pop actually...I've now got an oil leak coming from the cover. I'm going to have to check now to see if I've damaged a pedastal mount point like you said. If I have managed to damage one, how can that be fixed? Where do they fix to? Are they on the cylinder head?

Where are you mate? We've got a rocker cover here that LuvinmyEB might be willing to sell cheap if you want it...

Northern Beaches Sydney...I will go to the wreckers this weekend to see what I can pick up.

So does anyone know where the pedistal mounts are fixed? Cylinder head? engine block? Cam Assembley?

Pedestal mounts are part of the rocker assembly and bolt to the top of the cylinder head. You will need to unbolt the entire rocker assembly to change a pedestal (i think it's about 24 bolts or so)...

if you take the rocker cover off, do you need a new gasket or silicone for when you want to put it back on?

28 bolts - each one needing to be tightened at least twice.
Juz Gremlin - depends on what condition your old gasket is in. If your old one is hard or brittle, ditch it and get a new one. ED if you are fitting EA-ED rocker cover, EF if you are fitting EF or EL rocker cover. EF gasket is a funky silicon-y type of gasket, that sits inside a rim of the rocker cover. With ef, you will also need some silicon in each half moon - else you will get leaks.
