i've hadf a few drinks, so my typing may ber a bit bad, but this is shockiing news. catch those reponsilble and hold their CAUSE responsible! there's no cause worth putting what the affected families (native or not) through what thesseidiots put everyone through. the families, businesses, tourism, these things suffer becuae someone wants something done their weay, its much worse than drugs in my opinion

i hope no innocent people were hurt

Dude, however unfortunate, It's a bombing. Innocent ppl will be lost.
News flashes first said 2 to 9 ppl dead, then 18... One of those ones where the toll rises but at least this one doesnt seem catastrophic.

Huh? what's going on? I've turn the TV on and can't see any news or headlines. Nothing on the net either.

I got back from Bali 2 weeks ago - I was visiting my sister (who lives Legian). She and her husband are both OK, but are trying to track down friends etc who were in the areas affected by the blasts.

It's weird - Hard Rock got hit (I had a beer within spitting distance 2 weeks ago).
Nusa Dua got hit (where my sister's wedding was)
Jimbaran (or something like that) was where the first blast was, and that's a 10 minute drive from my sister's house. It's freaky when you've been to all those places, and nothing happened while I was there, and now look. I am thanking my lucky stars this did not happen 2 weeks ago.

Looks like 8 dead so far - let's hope not too many more than that, and that at least 3 of them were the bombers!

012 - It was on Channel 10 at 1.00am as late breaking news. The first blast was at Jimbaran at approx 8.00pm Bali time (10.00pm Aus time), with the next two areas (Kuta and Nusa Dua) copping blasts "minutes later". Looks like 6 blasts in 3 locations at this stage. It may be on at 2.00am as a news flash as well - I'm staying up to see if they have any further details.

Here's a map for those that don't know how close these locations are - and they are all high tourist areas (of course)

Shocking news, I think the tourism industry will dry up after this one. Not good for people over there trying to make a honest living.

At least 23 dead so far, and unfortunately one aussie amongst those.
They have also found 7 undetonated parcels!...So sounds like it could have been much worse (not that this isn't shocking enough)

every death is a tragedy, so without sounding crass...thank God it wasnt worse. Only one way to make the indonesians take this seriously...just stop going there. Hopefully then they will give a damn about the loss of INNOCENT life that is occuring everytime another bomb goes off.

"Australian Federal Police officers and plainsclothes FBI officers were sifting through the debris searching for victims and parts of the bomb".

On the scene pretty quick?

Then again... There WERE warnings....
Early last month, the Australian government warned it was continuing "to receive a stream of credible reporting suggesting that terrorists are in the advanced stages of planning attacks against Western interests in Indonesia".
"Attacks could occur at any time..." the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) warned in its updated September 2 warning to Australians intending to travel to Indonesia.
The government urged Australians to defer non-essential travel to the country, adding: "Australians in Indonesia who are concerned for their safety should consider departing."

You know whats funny in a tragic sort of way? People continue to visit this place. Don't get me wrong, I think this is terrible, but if you're travelling to Indonesia for a holiday you're asking for trouble.

You just can't tell some people, even with the schapple corby thing, since then has been "the bali nine" and the model that had drugs on her in Bali,
If people don't take these as warnings, what will it take?
I agree with you Mike Gayner.

P.S I sincerley hope the death toll/injuury toll does not rise. I also feel sorry for the business owners who are also innocent parties to this horrific act.

I think that's pretty much removed Bali as a destination for those stalwarts who were still happy to travel there. Trajedy that they can't seem to stop the senseless killing. Hopefully this time when they catch the lowlifes that did it, they receive a sentence worthy of their crimes (perhaps it'll help if the police plant pot in their pockets...)

Just saw this post - I didnt even hear about it last night or this early this morning - what the f*^k is wrong with these fn monkeys!!!! Theres not a great deal anyone can do to stop this occurring from these fwts. The bombers obviously want to live in poverty as that place is going to turn into a third world country if they keep this up as noone will be travelling there. Worst part is you go over there 5 years ago - no probs -**** it up with your mates and have a ball with great locals trying to make a buck - geez I feel sorry for the ones this really affects and the innocent who lost there lives for nothing.

I bet there would be some very nervous security hierarchy, that have the unenviable task of managing our Commonwealth games safety? Let's hope they are on the ball! We do NOT want these scenes repeated on our soil!
