Default Governed EL??

This bloke at work reckons the EL's are governed. I reckon he's blowing smoke up my *** - he couldn't even explain what a governer is. (no smart-*** comments about politicians here please)

What does it mean? Is it possible?

Im pritty sure they have a rev limiter but they are not governed,a governor i think is normaly electronic and once its in top gear wont let the motor rev past a certin point wich means it can only go a certin speed, most trucks are governed to 100kmh and no matter how much right foot you give it it wont go past 100kmh and i think BMW is renowed for there 250kmh governor on there cars.

depends on the model.
XR's and cop cars are limited higher, as are manuals.

i think NC fairlanes were limited, and then the limitation was moved down the SWB models later on.
my EF is limited to 180.

I thought the limiters were there due to the tailshafts on autos starting to vibrate after that point? So i remember reading, anyway.

yeah... i wish i could sit on 200+ km/h as apposed to 180.... but the law suggests otherwise.
mines done 180, but i wouldn't make a habit of it... mines hit the 180 limit on the dyno.

Default Speed limiter

My XR6 is confused.....
I have 17x45x235 on insted of the standard 16" rims

One day it cut out at 185kms
a different day it cut out at 190

another just under 200

i know its limited because of the holy S%^T factor when it kicks in.
but im the same at that speed the wind is gettin pretty loud!!!

I have slottered rotors and braded lines and i can jam on the brakes at top speed and it will do very well.
i wish it went as quick as i can brake!!!!

All EF and EL are speed limited to 180 kmh. I believe ED onwards is when 180kmh factory speed limiters were intorduce by Ford as well as other manufacturers.
The reason is: the tail-shafts are balanced to 180-190kmh, beyond this speed they start to warp and deform, then you risk snapping or loosing a tailshaft.
The fix is: replace the alloy tailshaft with one for a higher speed rating and aftermarket ECU.

does this mean normal el glis and futuras with a manual are limited higher or are they the same as the autos.
