My cars playing up again, similar to how it was at the start of the year. Its developed a steamtrain kind of exhaust flow, where it kind of putts along in short outbursts of exhaust air.
This morning it hardly started and once i got it going there was white smoke coming out of the exhuast for quite a while, not normal condensation smoke.... I filled up with Bp Ultimate yesterday morning, and ive done 100k's since i filled up. A mates dad said the ultimate may have cleaned something out thats caused a block in one of the fuel injectors, could this be the case?? Any advice would be a huge help as the car can not be taken out because it feels like it wants to stall when it idles at the lights. Thanks Paul Last edited by crannersEL; 31-10-2006 at 03:49 PM. |

White smoke is water IIRC and blue smoke is oil.

Could be HG, is water coming out of the exhaust? Or just the steam?
BTW, ive never heard of an e series being 100%

fill the water up and go for a drive, it definately sounds like HG from here, if it chews through the water then get on ebay and look up what EL XR heads are going for...look at the positive!

best way to tell is pull out the spark plugs (it will most likely be number 6 which is leaking) and if the plug is brown it means water has been getting in there. basicly the cylinder will get water in it making it hard to start and the steam out the exhaust is because there is water getting into the cylinder.

Another vote for the headgasket.
Head off, clean it up, heavy duty springs, big cam, AU gasket :sm_headba

Bad news, typical e-series. Hope that will be the last one.

That sucks Paul. When was the headgasket last replaced? Was it done on the cheap?

It can really vary. My uncle's EL has done 200,000 and has already blown two while my EAII blew it's first and only headgasket at 230,000. My parent's EBII has also done about 230,000 and hasn't blown one.
