Purchased my ps2 a few days ago and have noticed when the cooling fan kicks in it sounds like a D9 dozer at idle. Is this the norm or do i have a dud?

Mine still works 100% spot on and doesnt sound like that either.
It sounds much more like a D12 Dozer

There was an updated PS2 released within the last 12 months, just a rolling update which was quicker, had built in Infra-red and runs MUCH MUCH quieter. I know because my original one got nicked and they HAD to replace with a new one. Guess there are some advantages in that, even though I lost my memory card... don't even START on that one...

yeah, the 50000 series PS2s are much, much quieter than the older ones. I originally thought it had a thermofan but it's just really, really quiet.

The fan in my one makes a nice sucking in air noise that gives me the sh*ts, but it still goes, and that's the main thing.

I've got one of the old school PS2s and the fan noise drives you crazy. It sounds like a EA Falcon with a dodgy clutch fan. It's annoying when you want to play a game or watch a movie but you don't want the volume too loud.

My PS2 died 2 weeks ago. (bought it when they were released so it's pretty old)
A year ago the fan started to get noisy but no all the time, sometimes helped by tilting it a bit then putting it back down. Like i said, now it's dead. Those with noisy old ps2's, sell them now...

If anyone has any old busted PS2s lying around, throw it my way, I'll take it off your hands in return for a few notes...
