xcgxl: i am sheet metal worker, and yes i made this shield!
and i can tell you that it looks the goods!
all edges are neat guilotine cuts, all holes punched and not drilled, no marks from the bending press and no scratches! polished finish, and guaranteed to fit!

polyal: i thought the same thing when i got my headers, but made one of these because of the amount of heat that comes off the pipes. cables, coolant overflow tank, brake booster, stainless intake pipe, amongst other things that wouldnt mind feeling a little cooler! and just the engine bay temp in general... after a year when they start getting rusty then covering them isnt such a bad thing either...

cheers

looks great.

do they discolour at all?

The price is a bit dear though in my opinion.. Over $100 delivered to your door is a bit steep. ~$70 delivered and people may be more interested..

Also, how do you bolt it to the manifold? I can't see how you get a ratchet under it to attach it to the headbolts you speak of?

I have seen this engine bay in person ... and this heat shield looks so clean on the engine .... top work if you made it yourself too.

Goes pretty damn good as well.

As Polyal said, you spend the money buying extractors, you at least want to see them!

Even tho I wouldn't be buying one I must admit it looks neat, so for that well done.

I hate the look of extractors so I bought one of these off Fordmods....... IMO looks awesome........

Waiting for mate to polish it and to get the Ford Emblem engraved in it.

thanks guys,
yeah i ran the group buy in ford mods... this shield i made afterwards as i didnt have the material at the time to finish it, so its the last one!

do they discolour at all?
no its stainless and will not discolour, dosnt get hot enough to turn blue either...
sheild is 1.5mm thick, angle is 2mm thick...

$70 delivered and people may be more interested..
haha, i put a challenge to you to get one made the same cheeper than that!
unless you can do it yourself of course!
when you take into account, the 304 polished stainless sheet, 304 stainless nuts, 316 stainless Cap screws, and the labour involved to cut, bend, weld, and not to mention design it, it is very very cheep at this price!
i bet you couldnt even buy the materials for $70! and if you could, would you be able to make it in half an hour? this shield is being sold at a 'group buy' price guys, think about the work involved before asking for $70...

Also, how do you bolt it to the manifold?
those four screws you can see in the top, well they screw into a mounting angle which is mounted to the head using the existing exhaust head bolts...
4 nuts have been welded to the underside of this mounting angle, and the shield screws into the angle...

check out this link (its crude but tells the story)
http://www.fordmods.com/forums/uploa...unting_964.pdf

cheers

So you have to drill to suit your head bolts?

yeah i was going to say that i had seen these before. i would have bought one but it wont fit due to gas mixer being in that place. it would be good i believe that these would be a good investment for e-series people who are getting there p's after the new laws come in in june this year.

Because of the shield's ability to hide "aftermarket extractors"

if you look at 3rd pic that DRHEMI posted you will see that slots have been made in the mounting angle.... so, you just loosen up your exhaust bolts and slip the angle into place, then tighten them back up again, very simple...

Looks great mate. There has been overwhelmingly positive feedback on Fordmods regarding these heat shields.

Do you know if this will fit with a gas converter in the way?

i dont belive it will. you probably have your converter in the same place as mine and by the pics it wont fit. you would probably need a cut out in the plate to make it fit.

I have to disagree with you about the price. I think it is quite reasonable, if I had the spare cash at the moment I know I would jump at it.

Well done XR-51-KK, it looks awesome. Are you going to be possibly making more in a few months time?
