no worries, thanx for respecting my post, but you didn't have to delete them
it is a very nice car, but obviously we would like the pics and discussion to centre around coupes - however, it was still great to see your car and if the edit function is still valid, you are welcome to put them back in |

I didn't own the Cobra on the far left but , I did have the pleasure of driving it around & riding shotgun in it for a year or so.
It was marked as No.186 , looking at the picture now it seems odd that it didn't have the factory scoop on it. This ironically numbered Cobra had low km's & had been very well kept , it seemed loaded with every factory option available , power steer , air con & electric windows (I think) Whoever owns Cobra 186 now can correct me. The original 351 was rebuilt (to ~350HP) , the Toploader box was silky smooth & the 3.55 LSD + big bore exhaust made for a very sweet car to drive outta Sydney on a Friday night & return home Sunday. I hope it's still in good hands now. JB |

I looked for some more info on the 400 Ford XC Cobra's & found out some interesting info about them. Main references from
http://cobra.jfpresentations.com http://www.falconcobraclubofaus.com I'll retract my statement about Cobra No.186 having a silky smooth Toploader , it seems more likely that some time after it left the factory someone had a Borg Warner (0503-008) 4 speed fit into it before my mate bought it. 001 Promo car 302 auto 002-031 Bathurst (Option 97) 032-041 351 manual A/C P/S 042-080 351 manual A/C P/s P/W 081-200 351 auto A/C P/S P/W 201-300 302 manual 301-360 302 auto A/C P/S 361-400 302 auto A/C P/S P/W The people who managed to buy Cobra's 002-031 got themselves a fast looking car with some very useful accessories to make them more reliable. The lack of power steering made the Option 97 Cobra's a real muscle car. I saw a Cobra with Number (32-41) on it for sale asking ~$78k. That's a lotta money to be paying for an XC GS coupe with a go fast paint job an ID number on the glove box & ADR 27a emission compliance. Like most the people who have contributed to this thread , I prefer owning a coupe that is not 1 of 400. JB |

Time to revive this thread...
I just picked this car up last week, not a real GT but is a GS 351/toploader/9 inch. Sunroof, factory air power steer. I wouldnt have done the mock up myself but it is done well. My other XB GT sedan is still at the painters with what was meant to be a 8-12 week excersize but now entering its 8 month and still counting... I dont know what it is but I have the worst luck with painters/panel beaters. Only they can get away with working to their own timeline the simmons were tried on to see how they look for a laugh, still trying to decide what to go with, most likely convo's 10's and 6's

Gday George, yeah its onyx black mate but the guy added some metallic to it. To be honest if I end up keeping her long term it will go all black (onyx) without the sliver outs. Just feels wrong.
The apollo is my sedan which is a real GT.

Anto, that looks fantastic, well done.
How about coming with us to the Hardtop event in September, there are a few of us that drive across to Echuca from Adelaide.

Yes that is a possibility, if theres no work clashes etc...
and yes it was he eBay one. It was an SA car down at victor. Whenever a nice car turns up its usually in the eastern states and there's no time to check it out. The Simmons are a mates and he has plans or them so it's a no go. Anyone in sa got some centers/convos/prostars they want to sell ?

Well done, a great pick up. Followed this car and spoke to the owner, wanted to buy it and was going to fly over and view it. If it was as good as the owner indicated, I probably would have bought it, but you beat me to it being in the same state. It went on ebay within the same week (by the weekend) you bought it. The car is very sound structurally and mechanically. The previous owner was a mechanic and built it himself as a keeper. The colour looks deceiving as he painted it in acrylic. If you ever want to sell it, would love a chance at this one.

I was lucky it was in SA otherwise it would have been a bridge too far. Ive missed out on cars interstate many times so I guess it was my time. He was overwhelmed with calls and enquiries but I was on his doorstep with a mate within a day with cash...If I didn't buy it he would have.

Yeah couple of reasons...I sold it because Was going OS to NZ to work for a while and the the car was originally mullbery in color which kind of bugged me back then ( wouldnt now)....I just figured Id buy another one when I got back a couple of years later.... (which I did) Keeping in mind it sold it back 2004.
What I didnt realise was that they would sky rocket in value/price...

Hi Guys,
New to the forum seen. Stumbled accross this post and thought i would say hi. I just got the old XB on the road after working on it for 5 years (nearly every weekend) in my 6x6 garage. I will try and upload a pic of the old girl.good2a.jpg Anyone know what ford clubs are in Perth? Are they any good? I took her for a 1400mile (2200KMS) cruise on the weekend Perth to Esperance and back. It was pretty awesome. Took a bit of damage though from stone chips and a broken driving light from something a road train spat at me. Probably will have to paint it again prior to summer but i wll be driving the wheels of it until then. Cheers Mick Last edited by Mickxb73; 30-08-2013 at 10:11 AM. |

No worries. There's a Cars & Coffee cruise on 25 Aug meeting 9am at Munchies Fremantle if you're keen. Yes, that was my Coupe at the hot rod show parked just outside the entrance doors on Sat and Sunday.
