Get something that is bigger and gnarlier then a spider, and set it loose in the carport.

Probably the easiest way to get rid of spiders is to attract native birds, the little suckers are like popcorn to them! But this will be a problem with the dog around.
Personally I leave the spiders alone and they tend to keep all the other bugs away, one mosquito is way more annoying than ten spiders. If they are the dangerous types and/or you have kids around contact your local wildlife officers (or similar) they often collect them for venom milking. Cheers Greg |

Few spiders are dangerous.
The only spiders that should be killed are: White tailed Red back Mouse Spider Trap door Funnel Web Other spiders are generally non-aggressive and are not dangerous to humans. Huntsmans are larger, yes. But if you don't annoy them, they won't bother you. Their venom only causes nausea and sweating. I hate people who kill spiders "because they are there". They're a part of this world too. If a spider is indoors, put a jar over it, slip a piece of cardboard under the jar and put the spider outside. Nobody harmed. I had a wolf spider crawl across the floor about 2 months ago at 2am in the morning. My dream is to own a goliath tarantula, as well as one of those funky looking red-striped mexican ones. They are hot as hell! Those ultra hairy ones are pretty cool too. Their hair causes irritation, but they look unique. Spiders are simply another wonder of Earth IMO. |

So they're only a "wonder of earth" and so should be protected as long as they arent dangerous?

If a deadly spider enters the house, I personally would take it outside. But I accept if people kill them. But if they're outside, leave them alone.
All animals are a wonder in their own way. But people discount spiders as ugly, freaky creatures that bite people. Completely false. I reckon they are among the most fascinating things in the world. All spiders are a wonder, but some like the old funnel web are sometimes too dangerous to live with at times. They are very aggressive. In contrast, a huntsman is generally passive and will run when aggravated. |

Well personally I cant stand them and my kids play out the back and cant distinguish between good spiders and bad spiders so I remove them altogether.
Same goes if they are in my car and nearly cause me to have an accident, drop from the bathroom ceiling while my pregnant wife is having a shower (was funny at the time but couldve been disasterous) or squat inside my shoes etc etc I'm higher in the food chain and in the unlikely event that a spider bigger than me comes along i'll gladly bend over and take whats coming. hehe

Any huntsmann I come across gets the vacuum cleaner treatment. Venomous or not, I cannot stand the suckers and send them to the next life. When I eventually see our maker, I will ask Him why did He invent spiders.

Spiders are among the most fascinating animals on Earth.
Their movements, behaviour and all that...absolutely captivating. I can't stand when people say, "I love animals" but they hate all the ugly things. I love all animals. The fluff, the scales, the hairy, the slimy, the creepy-crawly etc. I plan to have my own little menagerie in the future. Snakes, lizards, spideys. I'd get an elephant, but I don't think the council would let me. |

Best way to get rid of the poisonous ones is something like Mortein Proffesional, cost's about $25 from a supermarket and you can do all around the house and keep all insects out.

When I did my first-aid course I was told that White-Tail spiders are actually quite harmless if your not allergic to a certain chemical in the venom.
In saying that though I have heard many conflicting stories about that particular spider, which sort of backs up my actions of squashing/maiming/burning/poisoning every spider I come across. hehe

He captured the spider and went to hospital as his foot increased in pain. He had a bad reaction and part of his foot just about died. He recovered, but his foot looked terrible at its peak. So I guess they do create bigger problems in some than others. But as they say, prevention is better than cure. It certainly doesn't help when I threw lemons at a wasp's nest in my backyard, then after throwing, running like hell with a few of the buggers chasing me. |

Whenever we get a huntsman (huntmant) we give it a pet name and watch its movements around the house. Never been bitten by a spider, though I have been stung by a european Wasp.. OUCH
As someone said previously, if you have children around and they are dangerous, get rid of them. If they dont bother you leave em! I consider Wolf spiders to be dangerous because the put their webs out at night at about face level. Dunno how venemous they are but i wouldnt like to be bitten in the face or eyes. My friend's bedroom was infested with white tails last year. He was bitten about 5 times over two weeks before he realised what the problem was. One bite was on his Jaw and he has a Goiter the size of a golf ball. It was so exiting when be cut it open and bled all the puss out, we filled two shot glasses so well over 60ml of bloody white puss! |

they're all evil. the only good spider is a flat one i would rather deal with a snake than spiders. you can buy mortein outdoor surface spray that is supposed to be good.

anything with more legs than me, gets to meet my mates, MR P.Beau, and Mr M.Ortein.
I was bitten 3 times over 2 weeks by 2 redbacks and a little b*stard house spider... I still have one of the redbacks in a jar of Meths... (not so) little b*stard :thebirds: the way I see it, they can bite me when i start living in their trees, so I spray or squash them when they try to move into the house...... |

And I play games. Among other things. But that was when I was on Uni break. I have class atm so the 2am nights are not during the week. But that night a wolf spider just came walking into the kitchen. Was completely passive. Didn't run. I purposely poked it with cardboard but it never even thought of attacking. But having spider-murderers in the family, I took him outside and put him on next door's garden (yep, at 2am). Spiders are fascinating. |

from what i heard form some spider people (uni degrees) the whole whitetail thing is a myth. it just affects some people differently and its not neccicarily a whitetail bite that causes this it just gets blamed.
if they bother you invest in a BB gun or make a skewer shooter out of rubber bands and a pen tube :P i leave the spiders alone tho they keep the other bugs away and and are fun for thowin at sisters scorpions on the other hand sometimes end up getting nuked in the microwave the little bastards thay cant be trusted and damn hurt a tarantula would be soo cool to have

I kept a pet huntsman in a jar when I was 12. I fed it a daddy long legs. I've seen huntsmans attack each other too. The Black Widow female eats often eats the male after mating. The male has to stroke the female rhythmically to put her in a trance. But if he does it wrong and the female is a wee bit peckish, then *chomp*. Also after copulation, if the male takes too long to escape he will be a meal. |

Yes one for the women. :hihi:
On another note, I heard it was actually bacteria that the whitetailed spider was picking up not the venom that was actually causing people to end up with rotting wounds. I for one do not want to find out, so in the house they are gone outside the house they can do what they like. |

I recommend wearing some sort of mask when spraying, especially overhead. I spent about 10 mins spraying around the unit I live in and in the garage with Mortein Professional and was a little nauseous afterwards. I tried my best to keep out of the way of falling mist.
