dont go to tyrepower at newcastle
had a wheel allignment done, with 5 new tyres and needed a shave of the brake disks. had new brake pads on. they put on 4 new tyres, plus the spare in the boot, new disks and brake pads. i drove down the street and still allignment was out, and brake ABS light kept coming on. took it back, they looked at it and gave it back, no explanation. 5 months later outside edge of front tyres bald as a... and they have put on the wrong disks, non ABS disks, thats why the light comes on. these guys dont know what they are doing, and they refuse to fix it at theyre cost.

If you knew that the alignment was out as soon as it was done, then why did you continue to drive around like that for 5 months?

geez i think i have also heard another tyrepower drama here in brisbane too, with a clutch replacement.
thats pretty dodgy replacing the rotors with non-abs ones.

how do you know they aren't abs disks? did someone tell you or did you get another mechanic to check the disks?
also i don't understand, did you pay for 5 tyres and they only gave you 4? try sending a letter to their head office, make it clear what happened, you will get a response of sorts i'm sure. good luck |

I seriously doubt there are any qualified mechanics working at Tyrepower.

I also know of a tyre power that must do "wheel alignments" on all the shopping trolleys at super markets :evil3:
They sure cant get a car right either ![]() My car drove better before the alignment was done, and they still botched it up the second time. I so regret taking my car there :togo: NEVER AGAIN.

the abs discs have a tone wheel(metalic dics) on the inner face between the seal and the disc rotor face. the non-abs discs don't have the tone wheel on the back. I'm pretty sure thats it. its why there called tyrepower and not brakepower, lol |

Call the MVRIA and complain to them. Guarantee you'll get it rectified pronto. That is if they want to keep their repairers licence.

I had Tyrepower Sunshine replace a tyre at the expense of the mechanic who did the roadworthy. There were 3 impact bulges on the inside of the front right tyre - which was discovered when I had a wheel alignment done shortly after buying the car. So they sent me to Tyrepower. The guy just had this weaseliness about him - he was the manager. They replaced the tyre and not long after taking it home discovered they fitted a H rated Falken tyre as opposed to the other V rated Falken tyre of the same model on the other side. I made them change it to a new V rated tyre as the tyre placard states V rated tyres on my EL XR6. That and one harder compound and one softer compound on each side of the car can't be too good either.
I reckon it was some dodginess between the mechanic and Tyrepower - but they didn't get away with it

We've had our alignments and tyres done at our local KMart Tyre and Auto thingy. They did a good job. Car handled and gripped better, braking was far better and the ride was just orgasmically better. So there are some ok people out there. |

Been to Tyrepower twice and I won't be going there a third time. First time I ordered a set of wheels they put the wrong tyres on.
They assured me they were better tyres grip wise, yet they failed to mention the life in them wasn't long. Second time is all in this thread. http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthr...t=63029&page=1 I can accept the occasional mistake but this was beyond ridiculous to me. |

You don't need to be a mechanic to do any of that.

I had a similar problem with a wheel alignment at K Mart auto. Took it back to them. Reply was "oh, your car is lowered, you need to go to a specialist wheel aligner, like Heasmens at Tempe". Took the car to Heasmans AFTER I replaced the tyres. Another $250 odd later for new ball joints and I need a new SUMP because they drop the sump onto their JACK and smash it in. They initially deny it but after a bit of preasuring they replace the sump. It shits me that these guys have a megalopolis of a workshop now, my dad used to go there in the 60s when Mr Heasmen still ran the place, now some chockos have bought the name.

This is precisely why I don't let most places near my car... the general level of incompetence amongst motor traders these days is bloody ridiculous.
I could name many instances, but I will only a couple: 1) Old man took his VT Commodore to a tyre/wheel place to have front end suspension bushes replaced and some other component (can't remember what it was). Gets the car back, new front tyres, etc. Four weeks later starts making noise again. Turns out the morons didn't lube the bushes up so they woreout pretty quick smart. I bet they let their dumbo apprentarse near it. 2) Guy replaced the windscreen on dads VT and forgot to put the frucking rear view mirror back on. Windscreen man came back and installed it, only for it to fall off while dad was driving a couple of weeks later. Guy never came back. Dad drove around without a mirror for a while he argued the fact with the dipshits. 3) Took my car to have a headgasket done. That part of it was done no probs but my car had its mag caps stolen whilst in the shop. I think it was left out overnight but the guy swore black and blue he didn't and that he wasn't responsible. Cost me $100 and 2 months to get a new set ![]() Plenty of things I could name. I once had a REALLY good mechanic, an old guy, probably in his early 60s - would always give a straight answer and often fixed things for free. I really was disappointed to learn that he retired. I would've kept going to him, but I guess everyone has to retire at some point ![]() These days, I will only go to a mechanic or other repair mob only if its absolutely necessary. Why is the industry such a pigsty?? BTW if any *HONEST* Brisbane mechanic is reading and wants some work, let me know, cause there's bound to be something that I'll need done at some stage ![]() To any *DISHONEST* Brisbane mechanics reading: sit on it and rotate, cause that's all you're getting out of me. ![]()

These are the type of guys you need
2 weeks before Christmas I had a call from St Vincents Hospital in Melbourne , "be here Monday ! !" ( 8 hour drive from here ) this was on a Thursday . Our ED needed a new radiator , 4 new tyres , alignment and Aircon recharge , and we were VERY short of cash . Saw the guy at our local Tyrepower outlet & he said "Bring it in tomorrow , she'll be right , Oh! and don't worry about the bill , see me after the New Year". Friday afternoon , there was 4 new Tyres on the car , alignment and Aircon had been done . We had a radiator on order with our regular mechanic (it had arrived on Wednesday) but he had to move his son to Canberra on Saturday/Sunday , but told us to bring the car down after Tyrepower had finished . So we dropped the car in 4-30pm Friday . 9am Saturday morning the car came up the driveway , new radiator in & a full check over . The mechanic had gone to the workshop at 5am to work on our car . What can I say about these two businesses ? absolutely BRILLIANT work , we've been going to these guys for 13-14 years and wouldn't go anywhere else . Small town , regular customer , I don't think you'd get better service ANYWHERE else. Norm

Doug still does the alignments, peter is still in the office & the other brother is in the suspension /bilstein side. Paul is still doin the shock valving. sorry to hear about your sump, accos happen, but you shouldnt have to argue about it. i bet they fixed your alignment prob???? i only need an alignment when i fit new tyres then a balance as well. then its see ya when iwear these out.

Well the sump job happened in 1996. Who jacks a Falcon up by the crossmember in the first place?, then lets the jack down so fast that the sump caves in on it!! Then "Peter" says that they couldn't have possibly done the damage. Funny how the edges of the dent lined up perfectly with their trolley jack, hey? Very poor experience for me. I only go to Pedder's now and they got my car handling great, for an XC.

IMHO too many people rely on places such as Tyrepower to get work done. XPFalcon170 has already made the point by stating they are Tyrepower, and not Brakepower. Apples for apples and Oranges for oranges people... There's a lot to be said for genuine serivce... Quite often (thanks to dealer specials), brake rotor/pad work is cheaper to get done genuine than elsewhere. It's well worth looking into, and if things don't work out, you have more chance of having a dealer repair it at their expense as well. At the end of the day, I think a lot of people really need to starting thinking for themselves a little more... Half of the posts in this thread are actually quite silly for a forum full of "enthusiasts". It's a wonder mechanics don't rip more people off at times...

Quoted $2500-3000 for "Mates Rates" work (Mates Rates; so never got a written quote), with a follow on of "Whatever it turns out being in retail, I'll half it for you... $9000 later I have a car which has paint peeling off the engine bay, the bootlid, and off one rear wheel arch... And it wasn't even a bare-metal job... ALWAYS get things in writing... I never bothered with legal action, couldn't really justify the extra expense if I didn't gain compensation for the ripping I've received. I figure me telling my story (as embarrassing for me as it is), will screw them over more than anything else is the long run... Oh, and if anybodies wondering where I got this sensational job done: It was LENLOCK BODY REFINISHERS in Young NSW. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYBODY IN MY AREA TAKE ANYTHING THERE TO BE REPAIRED, NOT EVEN FOR INSURANCE WORK

He would take it upon himself to repair things in the car he felt was dodgy without calling me to ask or even tell me. He would wait untill I came to collect the car and tell me I have to pay extra than quoted He fitted my exhaust: Rattling Muffler needs replacing after less than a year as it is too close to the body and hits it. Lowered my suspension: Clunking and the bolts need to be tightened Changed my gearbox - Shifter is crapola, reverse rattles. My clutch was ruined in the process (not his fault) When I took it back to have the clutch checked he refused to have a look claiming that nothing is wrong and asking me if I was stoned. When the clutch failed on my way to work, he then had a look and said that my clutch had collapsed and it had nothing to do with the problem I had earlier. I then told him that I wanted to take the car to another mechanic becuase I wasn't happy with the way he was dealing with the car, he became rude(er) and made racist remarks (as I am of Wogish decent). Don't go to him! |

2 sundays a go had some fun at bob jane. booked the trouble and strife's car at 11.00 for new tyres. got there 10.30 cause i was busy and i hoped i would get out of there real quick. ended up leaving 2.30. guys in work shop were a bloody joke. car ended up being wheel aligned 3 times and it didint even leave the work shop once!!
BUT i must say the the manager in the office can talk some **** and stopped me getting ****ed off. overall i left quite happy and finally the car was great to drive again. im not sure if i would ever return there but if i did i would make sure that i keep my eyes on the "mechanics".
