Front Head Lights Are Yellow :o

hi guys..

my headlights o my EF FAIRMONT are a bit yellowish..
what is the best way to get these looking clearish again or looking like new..

does it need a polish or just a clean?.
what is the best way to do this?

am i better off saving and soending the $230 getting a new set..

im trying to do this the most cost effective way as posible..

Theres a thread on it, check the e series forum, you sand em back with 1600-2000 grit wet and dry sand paper apparently.

I just bought new ones after attempting to repair them. Looks a lot better and lasts longer, if you're willing to pay the price.

I gave mine a go at home, worked for a while but eventually they just went crap again.

Took them off the car and got them professionally sanded and polished a few months ago, and they came up a treat. Cheap too (mate's rates though!)

Also chucked on some headlight protectors afterwards, and they've remained crystal clear so far.

brasso, its a type of polish crap for brass it works a treat and is only $6, and can be brought everywhere even safeway, just ask someone cos it takes ages to find, you just do your headlights with it everythime you wash ur car

Take the lights of your car and work cut and polish into them with a spunge. They come up as new. Works better than sanding them without the risk of scratching ur lights. I read somewhere that after u have cleaned the lights go to ur local sign writer and get UV treated clear contact that they use for their signs to stop fading, I haven't tried this but apparently it does the trick and stops the lights yellowing again.

I did mine with T-Cut car polish and they come up pretty good but I'd like to go over them again with something even finer to really get them back to clear so I might have to give the brasso a go. If they're really bad hit them with some wet rub first before the cut and polish. And that clear UV treated contact sounds like a good idea as well except that wouldn't it be susceptible to sandblasting from road grit and the like as it's so soft?

I did my EF with wet sandpaper and some plastic polish. Came out better but no way as good as new ones.

Meguiars Scratch X does a great job on the yellowing headlights, it's what I used to use on the Ghia.

yer it suks for me i got one new light and an older one. i put a really hard cut-n-polish which doesn't last that long. i just necently got the older one buffed insight and out. that helped. im going to just buy new ones. it suxs cause it is just going to do it agian i think it is caused by the heat off the globes and the lights are only made out of plastic..
