G'day all, I have received an e-mail from a truck driver named Mark who witnessed some appauling driving by an E Series member - an L plater in a blue Falcon wagon with Club stickers. His original message, reproduced with permission, is as follows:
"Dear Mr. Travis, I am writing to you regarding the actions by one of your members, registration # rego removed Dark Blue Falcon station wagon, which I will add had your clubs logos all over its windows. This morning at around 7.40am myself and another vehicle were attempting to legally merge from a lane that discontinued on Cheltenham Road, Keysborough into the lane your member was in. However your member moved up, so to make sure that no one could merge, I sounded the horn on my car and moved in behind your member only to notice the L plate in the window, the driver was a learner and he and his instructor, which I gather was his father or another relative were laughing. Now I believe that road courtesy is just as important as road rules, and both should be taught to learners. As we moved on further down Cheltenham Road through the intersections of Springvale Road and Centre Dandenong Road the learner speed off increasing his speed to 100km’s in a 80km zone, by the time I had caught up to check his speed he had reduced his speed to 80km’s, however he again increased his speed and I clocked him at 100km’s again and he continued this speed well into a 60km zone until he approached the round-about at Boundary Road, Braeside. I find the actions of this learner driver and the failure of his instructor to instruct him in safe and courteous driving skills to be extremely poor, what sort of a driver in this boy going to be when or if he gets his licence??? Not only did this learner driver act foolishly and his instructor fail in his duty of care, but they both also dishonoured your club by driving in this dangerous and discourtesy manner. Any driver licensed or learning should not be driving in this manner at any time, I have given the details of all this to the Springvale Police, however as you may well know they are reluctant to act of this type of complaint. I would also like to add that I am a member of a 4WD club, one of the rules for the club is that all members drive in a safe and courteous manner at all times, on all roads or there will either a reprimand or cancellation of membership if a complaint is received. I would like to think that your committee would take this matter to the member in question and at the very least reprimand him and explain in no uncertain terms that this sort of driving instruction and driving is not tolerated at any time, no matter who is driving. I would like a reply from you and if you require any further details, I will am willing to call you with them. Regards, Mark" The member shall be banned from the forums and the club as soon as we can establish his identity. We have zero tolerance for this type of stupidity. |
