Default Another Day Another Hoon Crackdown!

EIGHT Sydney hoons, including a woman, are without their cars today after a police crackdown on idiots who street race and do burnouts.

The woman was clocked allegedly racing another car, driven by a younger man, at 180km/h on the M5 at Riverwood early yesterday morning.

Police are holding the hoons' cars at a secret Sydney holding yard after operations in Botany, Brighton-le-sands and the M5 on Sunday night.

The hoons netted in the operations were issued fines totalling $6600 for a variety of street offences.

Police were outraged by the stupidity of the drivers whose cars were confiscated, including the man and woman caught street racing.

"Some people just don't get it. We're out there in force - do not street race," Deputy Commissioner Dave Owens said yesterday.

"We're not going to get sick of it, we're not going away and we'll continue to be there.

"Our message is don't do it. We want it stopped and we want it stopped now."

Police watched as the two drivers in a BMW sports car and a Mitsubishi Lancer allegedly raced each other side by side at 180km/h near the Belmore Rd overpass on the M5.

The woman, 28, was driving a silver BMW 325ci sports model and was charged with street racing and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.

A 26-year-old man in the other car was charged with the same offences and both were ordered to appear at Bankstown Local Court on January 9.

Operation Taipan police suspended their licences on the spot and their cars were towed to a police holding yard.

Another 22 cars were pulled over for inspection by police, with 34 defect notices issued.

A stream of tow trucks retrieved the confiscated cars after operations at known hoon hangouts in Bunnerong Rd, La Perouse, Penrhyn Rd, Port Botany and The Grand Pde at Brighton-le-sands.

Three of the cars were older model Holden Commodores with a new black Commodore and a white Ford Falcon among the cars in the holding yard yesterday.

The cars will be returned to the hoons in three months unless they win them back earlier through the courts, a police spokeswoman said yesterday.

It is believed all eight drivers of the impounded cars had been caught on a first offence, meaning their cars will not be crushed.

The State Government has promised to make repeat offenders watch as their cars are used as RTA crash experiments before the wrecks are crushed.

Jail terms of up to nine months will also be introduced for hoons caught street racing or doing burnouts twice, with some fines for driving offences tripled.

The crackdowns have come in the wake of the deaths of elderly grandparents Alan and Judith Howle, who were allegedly killed by street racers in St Marys in July.
Isn't it funny how they are mostly Commodores got but there is always one Falcon in the bunch?? Whats wrong with you Ford people?? Don't follow Commodores around they are a stereotype on wheels!!

I think what is really sad that considering the weight of penalties HOONING IS WORSE THAN GANG RAPE OF A MINOR!! (I know that is insensitive but true).

So everyone here who has chirped the wheels and taken off from the lights too fast you are officially the lowest form of scum!! When you go to prison you won't last a day the paedophiles and rapists will be uniting to icepick you so you will never endange innocent people again!!
