They do swap between a 5 carriage set during the week and a 6 carriage set on weekends and some holidays but that 6th carriage uses up so much more fuel.

Our second last return saw us standing on Junee station in 38 deg temps, watching our train depart for the roundhouse to fill up, we were in serious danger of running dry around Culcairn otherwise.

My other 6 carriage experience was outside Moss Vale station waiting on a Railcorp diesel to pull us in the rest of the way, then finding out the diesel didn't have the right couplings.

Why I try to avoid weekend and public holiday travel aboard it.
