Default Do you change lanes midway through a turn?

As the title says... Do you change lanes midway through a turn?

I was going up William Street in Sydney today waiting at the lights to turn right. Next to me on the right side is an Astra also waiting to turn right. Lights turn green, and behold... moron in the Astra decides he needs to merge into my lane (into my rear doors, STBD quarter) midway through a turn. And he has the NERVE to beep me with his horn, arms waving. :

This has happened many a time and its only ever been Holden and Toyota drivers!
