I am not the most perfect driver however i do think my xr6 is a powerful car, all 164 kws of it, however i follow these simple rules and i still have all my points on my licence.I do hope for this young guys sake that something caused him to do something that he had no control over.Condolences all round to family and friends for their very tragic loss.Lets hope that family and friends give them the total support they need in their hour of grief.
I was just pointing out that those roads can be a major factor. They are reknowned as some, if not the, worst roads in Aus. I lived there for 4 yrs, saw plenty of crashes, many without driver error. Many with driver error too.

Would you be saying the same about me if i had another 4 mates in the car?
just saying, not judging. If the ute keeps stepping out, either it, or you have a problem. Any car can be driven without that happening, including 'fully hektic' v8s, let alone a courier.

RIP and condolences to those involved.

Scruby and his band of ghoulish opportunists are, as usual, proposing 'solutions' before the facts of the tragedy are known. And pushing their agenda by trying to solve the wrong problem. Unfortunately, safe driving creates no headlines. Which leaves centre stage to the carrion-eaters.

Well read this one for another example of a silly, silly boy....

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117...from=public_js

Young? Well, not all that young.
Inexperienced? Who knows. Probably.
Stupid? No question about it.

Whats the answer: The system grabs 1500 bucks off him, grounds him for a while and when the time has elapsed he's back on the road, probably with a bigger chip on his shoulder and no attitude change. BOYS. I tell you what, work needs to be done, inside their heads.

Glad one of the families came out with some common sense so soon. I'm sure whatever punishment if any he gets out of this will be nothing compared to him having to live with the fact he was responsible for killing 4 mates.

I'm curious to hear what the investigators will release as the cause as this would be the first crash in ages where the authorities haven't come out straight away with a reason, generally speed.

The rule about carrying one passenger is ludicrous, it is a fix after the horse is bolted mentality and all it does is encourage more p platers to be on the road. Who the hell comes up these half arsed solutions.

Probably the people that have to review all the p-plate drivers who are in control of cars, either killing the people in the cars with them or, killing other people who are on the road.

It does have merits though, I can think of a few recent crashes that were due to inexperienced drivers overloading their cars. Plus with only one passenger it limits the amount of peer group pressure the driver faces.

I can see your point, all I think it would do is encourage drivers not to display their plates. Just like our gun laws, and a few others, after any death their is always a knee jerk reaction.

Can't wait till 2 weeks time. I will be finally off my Ps and won't have the stereotype attatched to me anymore or be faced with laws that won't do anything. Those plates are going to burn!

All a passenger restriction will do is instead of having many idiots in one car, they will be many idiots in many cars. That's if they obey the law in the first place.

Has anyone actually heard any more info on this accident?

Sure it doesn't look good and the odds are that he was being an idiot, but lets not judge him before we know the facts, he going to be feeling pretty aveage as it is having just lost 4 of his mate and knowing he was at the wheel, whether it was his fault or not.
are you serious, your shitbox van has either poor quality rear tires or your driving it too hard for its capabilities.( 3 times, ) get it looked at

ONE of the state's top road safety experts, Head of injury prevention at Sydney University's George Institute Rebecca Ivers said "That crash in Byron Bay is the classic example of a crash that wouldn't happen if you had passenger restrictions."

Is she serious!!! Has anything been released yet to say what caused the accident???

Yep and 18+yr old P platers can vote! At least it's one avenue P platers can express their opinion where it might hurt.

last I heard the driver said he didn't want to live. I'm hoping somethign +ve can come from his experience and, along with the publicity from this tragedy, he can help wake people up.

I've heard soem blame put on the road. I've travelled that road many times and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Personally, I'd much rather drive that road than a 110 km/h freeway with its total boredom.
