Default Pizza Delivery Jobs

Hi,

I've managed to get a job today working for Domino's as a pizza delivery driver. I've just left my current job working as a telemarketer yesterday and because I'm returning back to study next year I needed something part time. The best part about this job is that the store provides their own car for me (plus petrol etc.) to use.

Has anyone done this sort of work before? Had any bad experiences or robberies etc.?

Thanks for your input.

Alex

no robberies for me as a delivery driver. just idiot customers sometimes. don't let the owner catch you driving anything less than perfect in their car, you'll wish you hadn't. that said, hop on the moped if yuo can, it's awesome to hang the knee out around corners and get lean. couldn't stand it after 6 months so got myself a job as a video store clerk. not sure which was worse. so i quit and became a barman for casual work. much easier and being around booze is never bad.

Hehe, have you got one of those garishly coloured Yaris' with the interceptor wheels?

Theres a couple of them flying round Werribee/Hoppers, I always get a laugh when I see em, dunno why.. :

forgot to add that word spreads around real quick if you aren't an angel on the road. so don't get caught. other than that the tips are great on a friday night.

also forgot to say congrats on getting the job.

be glad you aren't wearing that pink competitors uniform.

The reason I'm going back to study is to complete the HSC so I can become a Police Officer, so I wouldn't have thought about thrashing the car around anyway. Thanks for the congrats, I'm looking forward to being able to drive for a job as I've been chained to a desk for the past 2 years. Also, BLC, yes, it is a Yaris, but no interceptor wheels unfortunatly.

Yeap Ive been there.

Some nights can be awesome, good tips, and others can be bad.

I was offered so many crazy things. Just to name a few good things: offered free booze, offered to sit down and have some pizza, offered sex, yes I am not kidding, there was a threesome in the lounge room and they asked if I wanted to have a "crack"...LOL Meet alot of hot chicks having parties too, and the whole time I had a GF, very depressing..LOL

On the bad side, sometimes you are late and its not your fault, some people are downright *********, and all over bloody pizza.

I had this one person start abusing me, I took it, said nothing and stayed polite. Then in the background I saw some co<khead taping everything, they were baiting me, trying to get me to fire up but I just ignored it, took the money, and did a burnout in the driveway. Stuff that. What where they going to do, tell on me? *******!

Other than that it was pretty good, but hard work.

Oh and dont corner to hard, sometimes I would forget and have to "re-arrange" the toppings...LOL

Congrats on the job.
My 1st car was a 5 litre and I never considered getting any sort of delivery job having to use my own car for stop start driving.
There is however a Domino's down the road.. and I do need a job, and I have seen their cars getting around. I think I might go apply. Can't go past free beers (especially now i'm fully licenced, I can actually have 1-2 and still drive, legally. lol) Thanks for the idea

a mate of mine was a delivery driver at pizza haven. If we had nothing to do, we'd go with him on his deliveries. The looks on peoples faces when they open the door and theres four or five big blokes standing there delivering one pizza. Priceless.

This is informing for me as I've looked at pizza delivering as a second job. Does anyone know the rates and what they pay?

I looked into it once.

If you use your own car i think you needed to tell your insurance company (remember that question on if the vehicle is used for Business or private use)...

Will probably need to pay a bit more on your premium.

I did it in the 91/92 for Pizza Mutt. Was 18 with a Mitsu GK Sigma. Drove it into the ground.
Pay was crap... $2.80 per pizza, take the fuel out of that and it was 3rd world wages...

Anyway, it was a job and had its high and low lights.

LOW LIGHT: Some doped up tool opened the front door and projectile vomited all over me...

HIGH LIGHT: One woman gave me a Lab Puppy as payment for her pizza !

I worked for Dominos for a little while (a very little while actually)
It was great there the people were really nice and stuff but my other job gave me more hours and it was getting to the point that i'd finish workin all day at my other job then go and deliver pizzas for another 6 hours or so and a few closes at the pizza shop got to me. I been at my other job for almost 3 years now and to be honest I like the work there alot more, (but not the people its a pity!)
I got 10bucks an hour plus 2bucks something for every delivery i did which covered my fuel. The pay was alright but my other job payed better!
Congrats on the job and I hope u like it, if i wasnt where i was now I'd go back to dominos with out a 2nd thought!

Mmmmmm.... I was (WAS!) a pizza mutt person that got stuck into the ritual of working there... I used to friday closes and then do a 2am run through the mountains with 6 or 7 cars in tow... Which was great fun except that I often did a 10am prep shift the next morning

I was one of the lucky ones, you got paid an hourly retainer and got paid per delivery, I held the record for many months for the most deliveries in an hour... (Got all the close ones) Was something like 16 or something stupid like that... I bought a BRAND new Laser to do deliveries in... ran out of Warranty in 9 months....!!!!!!!

Those rumours of 'extra' things as payment are definiteley correct... hotels had plenty of discreet people doing their thing... Some people used to buy $20 pizza and flip you a $50 and say keep the change........ we would all fight over that address... It was good for a laugh thats for certain... met loads of different people, some of whom im still in contact with after 12 years......

I never got robbed thank god.... the store I was at (Sunnybank), got done over, every few months usually...

Anyway, enjoy your fun time @ the pizza place while it works... you have it good if you are using the 'company' Yaris... as long as you are not 6ft or taller...

I did delivery driving for Pizza Hut for a year here in Perth

PROS: Free pizza, offers of booze, sex (im not kidding), tips, miscellaeneous goodies. Flexible hours, get to meet lots of different people and learn the local roads.

CONS: ******** customers, customers who dont pay because you are 2 minutes late, drugged customers, drunk customers, ******** supervisors, wear and tear on your car (if using your own)

Congrats on the job and enjoy

Dominoes*
1st 3 Months 9.73/hr
1.60 Per delivery
-.15 cents per delivery in own car ($1700 EXCESS)
(this cover is mandatory. if you have 3rd party personal they cover 3rd party property, if you have 3rd party property. they give you full comp) - only way out of this is if you have a letter from you insurance company saying that you are covered whist delivering pizza (nrma i love you ;) )

Wages go up to $9.97/hr after 3 month (i think)
and keep going up every year you are there

TIPS - many ways you can learn to weazle tips EG
- customer tends 50$ for a 30$ order... give 15 in notes and then shake the bag looking for coins they will most likey tip you the $5
- talk nice to the customer, say sorry for the delay and offer cupons (there are piles in the store) good way to get a 1-2$ tip.
-hotel rooms... if you have a few shady motels around they are good... most customers order 1 large pizza for 18.95, pay with a 50$ and give a 11.95 tip (i got 2 of these tonight)
- i just worked tonight and got 33$ in tips and dinner for free

junk pizza
- prank orders / incorrect orders go into a pile.. freebie pizza basically

working 4+ hours
- free dinner = 1 large pizza and a 1.25l softdrink (why dont the bastards have fanta!!!)

anythig else.. holler

I did it for a while, and eventually ran the store. Only two drivers got rolled at the store I was at (out of probably 100,000 deliveries). Both of which were preventable. One was taking change for $100 (which you are not supposed to do) and another was they gave a phone number and address that didnt exist.
Base rate for Dominos was $12/h for a couple of stores in the ACT, and our store was paying $1.85 + however much it was over $1/L for petrol. (so if it was $1.20 for petrol, you'd get an extra 20c per delivery)

We had alot of females drive too and they never had any trouble either, so id say its a fairly safe and easy way to earn extra cash.

Also if the offer you to join the SDA, dont, they're fricken useless.

I can imagine a pizza boy rocking up in a Typhoon, that'd be sweet.
I get the same thing at work, kinda... "that your car?" (20yrold with a TL50 and P plates gets some looks) "Yeah mate"... "you must get paid well"..."no, I just know how to use money... and the banks like me"

i did delivery's a few years ago for pizza slut, was shit only got $4 per delivery.

and with my own car, and petrol.

some nights youd make no money at all. just sit at home and tell them to ring you when a delivery comes through.

i wouldn't do it again, unless it was with there car, and it paid an hourly rate aswell as delivery fee.

no wonder they always had trouble getting drivers.

should be good at dominos, there wasnt one near me when i was driving.

(ps a dominos opened down the road and the pizza slut is now closed down :P)

i did it years ago for Pinkys.
was on Centrelink at the time and was forced to do it.
got like $2 a delivery and discount pizza....wasnt even free pizza.
first delivery out on my own i ran up the **** of a car at the traffic lights. no damage to them fortunately but plenty to my car. guess you shouldnt try looking at a map when approaching red lights.
anyway, after the night was done i had made all of $4 profit after i took out the fuel i had used, the $3 discount pizza for dinner and the map i had to buy.....thats without the $1300 damage to the front of my car i never got fixed.
guess what i told them to do at the end of the night!
