Default Speed Camera Installed On Western Ring Rd Off Ramp

Last night on the western hwy/ballarat rd off ramp of the ring road it looked like they were installing cameras. The traffic was reduced to one lane and looked like peak hour trafic even at midnight!
Bastards.

Yeah, they used to have cameras on that spot but only on the two lanes that stay on the ring road. Now they have replaced those two with new ones, as well as put them on the off ramp.

So there are now cameras on each of the four lanes.

FWIW, they've also replaced all of the cameras back towards the intersection with the West Gate F'way.

There was a thing in the paper a few weeks back where Bracks said there would be ample notice before they were switched back on.

<rant>
This way they can have far fewer cops on the road actually booking bad drivers, and just the cameras booking the ones that momentarily screw up - and interstate drivers too.

The WRR has had a few new camera's put up in the last two months, so be very very careful Bracks is hunting your licence.

Still wondering if the cameras are linked to the variable speed limits along the Ring road.

Its so easy to mistake what the actual speed limit is when it changes all the time along this road, and that theres no correllation of current speed limit vs. traffic conditions. Then try to remember the circumstances (location, speed limit along that section, your speed etc) when the letter comes in 2 weeks? Just about impossible, and shows its just revenue raising.

I can imagine the cash register going "kjing" each time someone passes.

Casper,

I agree its better to be safe than sorry so one just follows like a dummy on the Western Ring road ie stick exactly to teh speed limit no matter if theres a truck bearing down on you or someone pushing.

But I have theory, if you pass teh variable sign and it shows 100km/h and then half way travelling between said sign and actually camera the speed changes how does one know to slow down?

In the UK the actual variable speed limit sign as a camera mounted so it traps you there and then. Logically I don't think its variable.

so many new cameras at least they should being in 10% speed thing ....
i don't think cameras are on yet... every second car is still speeding even through the cameras (they do flash though, so i dunno?? maybe just flash to capture your num. plate then able to ping you at the next one if you get there with in x amount of time)

Nothing there yet. Just watch out for cops hiding in the 90 section (you can see them after that big bend when your trying to get up to speed and merge safely)

Yeah that's what I've been told as well, they have to keep people from contesting the fines.

I think i made it sound worse than it is, but some of the freeways/bypass here you wouldn't even notice 130 late at night and I sorta cant blame someone doing 160 when there's no one else on the road.

I drove past there when they were doing work, absolutely shocking.

Traffic was backed up for miles, the least they could have done was do the installation during nighttime where traffic was minimal, honestly those people would have been sitting there gridlocked for at least 2 hours because of those fockorz
