Thanks guys. I was really worried about the valve aspect. The reason i am buying a 426 is due to the fact they represent good value and i really want a four stroke. I am riding track only because my brother is 13 and just received a KX 85. So until he is older and licensed then we are stuck to the motocross tracks. When i do buy the bike i am going to be very vigilant on the maintenance and it won't be revved very hard while i own it. :

Mate dont be worried about valve aspects at all chances are if you get a good cond bike you wont have to worry. Just maintain the basic oil and filters n blah blah and you will be sweet! I met a guy that has an 03 YZ426 the idiot hasnt changed the oil in 2 years and its still going fine. Just blows a tad of smoke. What a nob though. But shows how good they are.

WR450's have the best spread of power if you are comparing it with the 426.
I have ridden WR400's, 426's and 450's and i can say that the 450 feels like a 4 stroke, unlike the snappy delivery of the 400 and 426.

I would LOVE a WR 450 but for the time being ( and budget ) I am sticking with a 2002 YZ 426. When me brother is older and able to get his licence we will do a bit of riding with the Otway Trail Riders Club. Can't wait. :
Does anyone know what a top end rebuild is worth? Just for interest sake? |

looks good from the pics mate.
top end rebuilds can vary in price its like how longs a peice of string... valves are about $110 each x5, piston kit around 250$, cam chain $80(put one in as its most likely stuffed by now!) and then it depends what the cylinder is like cause they are plated and can't be honed (very much), cylinder is about $500 thats just a rough idea plus u have to get someone to do the work.. |
