My goal wasnt really loss or gain, i just wanted to be leaner, bulk up a little more and generally tone everything, so gaining would be muscle related not fat! Want to lose the fat, but gain the muscle basically!

Meh, I am not doing well at all :yeees: . Basically since the kids have been on holidays I have done no real "formal" exercise other than washing, cleaning, vacuuming, gardening etc. And it's not been enough. Something about being home... I start confusing boredom with hunger and will eat naughty things like white bread, toasted, with BUTTER on it. I hate the fact that dieting to me is basically denial, denial, denial. No matter what the books/mags/experts say, that is what you have to do to lose weight. And exercise, exercise, exercise... : The list of things I CAN'T EAT is longer than the list of things I CAN EAT. Anyway, there's no other way. Now once the kids go back to school in 2 days, I am back to it... and 2 kilos extra to lose. How's everyone else going?

Losing weight is alot easier than most people make it out to be. Dieting isnt only about not eating the bad foods, its more about portion sizes, and timing. You'd be surprised how many of us on this forum are OVEREATING at the moment. I know from personal experience. If anyone would like some tips feel free to ask, I am dieting at the moment and I am loving it! Of course I have my cheat days where I eat junk food, as everyone who diets should (now and then, probably once every fortnight), and I am losing weight at a good rate. So far I have gone from 113kg to 104kg in a few months! The key is calorie expendature - burn more than you eat and you will lose weight.

Well after all the exercise and eating right I did I'd had no results. But I went home to QLD, sat on the lounge and ate crap for a week and I lost 5kg. Oh well, I'll take it lol

good thread guys.
coinsidentaly (Spellcheck!) my General Manager told me yesterday that I was a fat b@stard, i'm almost 6ft, and on weigh in this morning I was 90.6kgs. my problem is i'm really lean on legs and arms, just my GUT is getting out of control. so it's by by beer for a month now, and try and get back to my nominal weight of 83kgs as quick as possible. my other Manager is 101kgs and I actually look FATTER in my uniform than he does and he's shorter!!! so it's a race to trim up, and get fit! this post has made me see the light!!! I AM A FAT B@STARD!! there you go, I said it. : TBC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

How's everyone going?
Since the winter weather has turned up, I think I have gained 3-4kgs. I eat so much comfort food and don't want to exercise at all

Well done mate! That's great news.
Howey, it seems bad with the BMI thing. They don't take into account that muscle weighs three times more than fat. I have been reading the Blood Type Diet book my hubby swears by (he's lost a shyteload of weight and gotten much fitter, his digestion is much better and he feels great) - and I have decided to give it a go. TG it says my blood type means I should be a veggo (woohoo, no hard work there then). But some foods he has pointed out I shouldn't eat, I already knew they didn't agree with me. So I think there is something in it... can't hurt to try it at least, all other diets have failed or taken alot longer than I thought. One thing I have already learned is that I am carrying an excess of water/fluid in my body. Off to find a diuretic now!

Hey Bindi, I've been told that our bodies retain water when we're not drinking enough of it. Kind of like when you starve yourself so your body decides to store fat next time you eat in case you do it again. When you don't drink enough your body stores water the next time you drink. That's what I've heard anyway. I'm interested in this blood type diet because a lot of people have said it works for them. Problem is I don't know my blood type lol

I've avoided eating: Potatoes Tomatoes Milk products (except for yoghurt and sour cream, allowed to have those - so I've been drinking soy) Meat (TG my blood type says I SHOULDN'T eat it) Too much wheat Butter Eggplant Black tea (green tea is really nice actually) The list is longer for what I should avoid but I never ate those other things anyway. I've still been eating a bit of chocolate and have sugar in my tea/coffee. So the diet seems to be working. I think it's cos these things that are on my avoid list actually play havoc with digestion of food, and with acidity levels etc. And the way your blood and your body uses the nutrients from certain food differs from one blood type to the next. For example, my hubby was a vegetarian until he started the diet. He ate steak for the first time in 2 years and the very next day had so much energy he went for a jog. That was over a year ago and he's lost over 30kg (with only 15-20 kg to go). I've never been on a diet where it says I can eat chocolate and sugar and still lose weight Oh and with the water retention, I have been drinking more water and doing gentle exercise and it seems to help. I am about to start taking a herbal diuretic as well. How's everyone else going???!!!

Right I've decided to give up BEER for a month. I've got the shakes about it already :P
There'll be a (planned) relapse for one night when I go to Vic with the SA Bogan Crew, but between now & then I'm not drinking at all... Until the end of July.

Well, I noticed this thread a month or so ago and decided to steer clear. I have been contemplating weight loss for the last 4 years and whilst I see the need, I really like food. But, last night, the missus and I decided we both need to lose some weight. She doesn't need to lose as much as I, but we are gonna have a competition. She is gonna lose 10kg and I am gonna lose 20 and we are gonna have a race to see who gets there first. First step will be to buy some scales. I let you guys know how we are going. Don't know exactly what I weigh, but I'll be getting on the scales in the next couple of days to find out. Perhaps we should start measuring after Orgin tomorrow night? hmmmm....

Well i've hit it.. i've lost about 6 kilos in about a month or 6 weeks. Nice steady loss.
I eat my regular breakfast (two weetbix + milk), regular lunch (sandwich and drink, or a burger, or something similar) and then a calorie controlled dinner in the form of Lean Cuisine. In the start it wasn't enough. So I threw in 1/2 a cup of microwaved vege's and that was great, but now I don't need it (assuming the 400gram meals). I have a "mini" mango weis bar for dessert. I find it works for me.

Welcome to Diva Chick, yay another chickie on the forums! :sm_headba
Big Waity, I know what you mean about the weetbix thing. I've had to consciously cut down my portion sizes, but instead of three big fatty meals a day plus chocolate, I now am trying to eat something small every two hours. This apparently is the way to weight loss heaven. Now at first I thought this would be easy, but in reality it's rather difficult! Two hourly feeds come along quite quickly. I feel I've just finished my banana when it's time for tomatoes on spelt sourdough toast (no butter of course). There is so much information out there on weight loss, it is really difficult to decide what works for you personally. I have tried everything. Weight Watchers worked for me a few years ago and I lost 16kg (and still had 15kg to go). But it took me 9 months, whereas everyone else in the group took a third of the time. I worked so hard, denying myself everything possible, and I felt it was unfair that they lost so much so quickly on the same diet I was on. So after a particularly stressful time I went off WW and back onto the all you can eat pizza diet. Then I read Dr Phil's book, and I tell you that is inspiration served with an emotional rollercoaster. It shows WHY you eat what you eat, and how your self talk really affects you and dooms you before you start. My husband has been on the Blood Type Diet with enormous success. It is stunning how much weight he has lost. But you see, we were both big people to begin with so he's still big. But he's gone from a size 6XL to an XL since last year by diet changes (granted, they are MAJOR diet changes!!!) and a bit of exercise. I am also a vegetarian and whenever I pick up the magazine New Vegetarian I get the beam of Weight Loss Religion, shining down on my head. All the nasties in fish, meat and processed foods just make me wanna puke when I read about it. So, all I can suggest is read, read, read. Men's Health is a brilliant magazine with loads of information and the latest health tips (as well as some damn hot guys - it's called Bindiporn!). The last hint I can give you, that works really well for me, is to EAT SLOWLY. Most overweight people just gulp down the food without really tasting it. I have found that the simple task of loading the fork with a small amount, putting it in my mouth, then putting the knife and fork down, works well. I chew slowly, enjoying the flavours in my mouth. When I have swallowed that bit of food only then do I pick up the knife and fork again. Because it takes 20 minutes for your stomach to register that it's full, I find that I don't eat as much because I feel full pretty quickly. Good luck, keep us informed!

hey, dark horse, better be careful losing that much that quickly. It is really good to lose weight, but, recommended healthy weight loss is 1% per week. Thus, 1 kg a week is probably plenty for most people. I don't wanna sound negative or anything, as I said, weight loss is a good thing when done properly, I just don't want anyone causing themselves dramas as a result of dieting.
waity.
