Hey guys. I have come across a EL Tickford head. Is there much benefit in fitting this?? Also it does not come with a cam, so could i run my normal cam or would there then be no point in fitting it??

as far as i know the head is where tickford got all the extra power from. its already nicely polished up and flowed way better than a stock head. if you put a normal cam in there you would notice much, but it would be great for chucking in a wade 1604 or 1636. does it come with the red tickford valve springs?

hey. it has the XR6 rocker gear and cam shaft sproket. Original XR6 valves, XR6 valve springs, lifters and retainers aswell as the red rocker cover.
I would consider fitting with a different cam, although im only interested in more power, without losing any driveability. I already have exhaust and chip planned, but this could be a nice addition. |

I'm not sure if there was any extra port work over a stock head, but i know that it got slightly bigger exhuast valves (like about 1mm bigger), and stiffer valve springs. Are you fitting it yourself?? If so than go for it, although as derb said, chuck in a reground cam aswell ($120 for a regrind) to take better advantage of it
Or alternatively you can get the tickford head and get some work done to it and chuck it in later down the track. It's definately a better base to start on than a stock head as you already have the bigger exhaust valves which saves about $250 that you would have paid to get them fitted on a normal head. Just a suggestion

definitely a nice addition. you wont lose any driveability with a 1604 or 1636. you'll actually gain low end torque so it will feel much better around town.

cool. Thanks derb. Definately sounds like a goer. I will probably have to do the head gasket at the end of the year anyway, so a straight swap could be a plan.
