G'day,
Just 3 questions tonight that I havent been able to find info about..... 1) Is the gearbox crossmember used in the 6cyl EB with the BTR 4spd the same as that used by the EB V8 with the same gearbox? 2) Is the tailshaft of the EB 6cyl auto the same as the EB V8 auto? 3) What is a complete reconditioned EB2 XR6/XR8 brake booster worth? 1) may not be any use to you but in my manual conversion we just turned mine around and used the other set of bolt holes. Apart from that I don't know sorry
2) Tailshafts are secific lenghts to suit the body. So basically if the tailshaft is from a SWB it will fit if it goes back into a SWB regardless of transmission. Theres a lot of information around (some of it conflicting) as to what the tailshafts are made of for certain cars. The V8's usually have an alloy one, so if you are tryig to get the car up to scratch for the engineer it might pay to look for an alloy one. I don't know howfussy they are on that sort of thing 3) I have bought one for $50 and recently resold it for $50. was not reconditioned just 2nd hand. Up to $100 would be normal but pushing the high side. |

Great, thanks for that info NZ, it is quite helpful.
I'll try to stick to the 6 cyl tailshaft but I will be using safety loops, just to be sure anyway. My other questions are as follows..... 1) Is the V8 starter motor on the BTR auto the same as the 6cyl? If not, how much will I pay for a new/reco one? 2) How much is a V8 altenator? will it supploy enough power for the following electrical components........ 3 thermo fans, 1 electric water pump, 2 fuel pumps, EFI, Head lights, wind screen wipers? How much is a high amperage model going to set me back? Mike

No the V8 and 6cyl are different. The V8 used 3 mount points, the 6cyl 2.
You'll need a 110 amp alternator for sure running the fans, electric water pump and an extra fuel pump. AN EF/EL one will fit with some mods to the bracket. I fitted one to my eb, it almost fits just needed a bit ground off the bracket. The ef/el alts only have a single plug where the eb has 2, one being a small one with a yellow wire from memory. Its just an external circuit of some sort thats been integrated into the ef/el alt so youd just tape up the extra plug. I don't know why that is as When I converted my car i used the orginal starter motor. I also recenly bought a new one from ebay for around $170 its going great. |

Yes they do. The outer casings however are different. A 6cyl alt will plug into an 8cyl loom but the alt won't bolt onto the motor

* Is the O2 sensor on the EB2 I6 the same as two on the EB2 V8? Mike
