As you're probably aware, our Aussie assembled Capri's used the Borg Warner 35 automatic gearbox. The Mk.2 & 3 Capri's released in the UK and Europe used the Ford C3 auto and so, you could try and source one of these for your V6 application. A Ford C4 auto may also work, but you may have trouble with the bell housing fitting the Essex V6.

...just learn to drive a manual. Old style autos sap power and are slow to respond to throttle. I'vre just taken one out of another classic I have - BW65 is now 4spd+2o/d manual.

Go find a nice big carpark after hours and practice changing gears, feeling clutch takeup by the seat of your pants.

Stick with the manual. It wont take long to pick up clutch control, particularly in an old car where you have a better "feel" on whats happening, unlike many new cars.
I learnt to drive manual in a couple of weeks practising hillstarts in an industrial estate.
Hang in there, you'll soon pick it up.

I'm with the other guys - keep practising, you'll get there. You will be very disappointed if you change the box over to an auto.

A manual box and clutch is a confidence thing early on.

If you change your mind I'll buy your 5 speed

My 4 speed looks like it will take some $$ to fix.

I have an auto bellhousing for the V6, I could also possibly supply the entire BW35 set up

It would take a lot less time to get your coordination together, than changing to auto.

Another thought....
Was it originally auto (TRANS code = Y) ?
If not, you may have trouble with tunnel clearance for the auto box. The autos and manuals had different tunnel sections.

- - - 11134/5 - - PAN ASSY. - FRONT FLOOR
69/70 All Manual trans - 1600 cc - 3038E 70 11135 A
71/ All Manual trans - 1600 cc 1 71EB I' 11134 AB
69/70 All Auto trans - 1600 cc - 3038E 70 11135 N
71/ All Auto trans - 1600 cc - 71EB T 11134 EB
70 GT Manual trans - 3038E 70 11135 J

In the UK, the Mk2&3 3-litre V6 Capri's came out with a C3. Perhaps you could source a C3 in Australia or try over the ditch in New Zealand for one.
