well its time, the engine has 245,000 on it and my brother abused so much that its dying a slow and painful death.
The head is fine but i want new gear in it. My question is what products would you use rebuilding a engine and keeping in mind ill probably bolt on my vortech supercharger at the same time. I want to know what products you would use and why! Im looking forward to your responces!

ACL rebuilt kits, because they have off the shelf parts for your car and what you want.
Plus ACL is good quality, reasonably priced, and a well known performance brand. ACL 'Race Series' bottom end rebuild kits cost $1200ish from memory, take it to a machine shop after that and let them balance, blue print, regrind or linish, and put it all together then after that.. Find a good head shop, depends on how much you have, you can get the head over hauled really decently for $1000ish.. as for the cam, find a big bad cam for the blower, JMM use the Dev5, Brendon will offer you that aswell unless hes got a custom grind for you. GnD have cams that will scare children lol but anything from crow/alted/its performance will all work. other then that John is pretty on the money, depends what you want to do, how far you want to take it, and how much you have to spend.. |

Almost certain.. the stock rebuild kit is $700, the race series kit is $1200 and I think with forged pistons included it bumps it upto about $1800 or so..
I'd say going by the prices ive given, inc machine work it will cost around the $4000-$4500 mark by the time the engine is fully rebuilt and ready to go.. just speaking from my own experiences and from what ive seen/heard. |

Who has quoted you those prices stiddy? Cos you are getting bent over badly. About $600 for the rebuild kit. $700 for a fully decked out head (ported, polished, new seals, new multiangle seats, port reshaping, springs, bronzed guides) $100 for the adjustable cam gear. Timing set? I have no idea on the cost. Machining $800.
$430 for a cam to suit PM me if you want me to hook you up any of the above. |

Just getting prices from Repco to rebuild my mates EB... maybe they were forged pistons? i cant remember, but im fairly certain with the prices I was quoted that I states above..
as for the head prices thats just a head specialist here in sydney.. $700 sounds a little cheap for the head.. depends on how much work is being done I spose? |

with the pistons etc, does anything have to be rebored/honed etc? or can i whip out the old, in with the new? i've been avoiding the bottom end rebuild for that reason! :

Depends if you get standard size or oversized..
Id pull it down to bareblock and measure the bores especially if your motor has done lots of k's just to be safe, and then send away the measurements for pistons to suit or buy slightly oversize pistons and then get the block bored to suit. More than likely with a cylinder hone you can whip out the old and drop in the new.. but i'd measure just in case. Same as the crank, see if that needs a regrind(no more than 10thou) or linish while you have got it apart and also get that measured so you can order bearings to suit(if it gets re-ground). |

Im thinking as my mum is overseas till the end of the year ill just drive her new GT Forester arround ! Ever since i raced at morgan park and it broke (coil/dissy) it has never been the same and has gone on a downward spiral ever since. Im cutting my losses and planning for the future! oh and any more web sites any one has to share?

I'd go for a low kay AU project motor, build it up with de-comp pistons and slap the huffer on the side then drop it all in at the same time.. Building a de-comped engine without the blower would be very sluggish and double handling the tuning side of things..
In saying that though, how many PSI are you looking at, I am going to run 9psi with only an air to air cooler because the AU engines are so cheap I can get 3 or 4 engines to one rebuilt jobbie..
