A friend of mine is always raving about how AI is great, does this and that and helped him out with sum fin or other a few times. And EVERY time he mentions it I think it's a load of BS.
Just reminds me of the Terminator III movie.. a crock, the concept, NOT the actual movie, as I'm a HUGE fan of all 3 Terminator movies). So I did a Goggle search the otherday just for a laugh and this is what it spat out. And THIS IS why I think it's rubbish. What's you take on it?.... So far. ![]() Cheers, One cynical Mad Man

I don't use Google very often.
I use Opera browser and have turned off Aria A.I. My default search engine is DuckDuckGo. Meta (Facebook) A.I. you cannot turn off in the Facebook App but in my Web Browser it doesn't show up. Meta A.I. is very ordinary at some things so far. One general instance is Meta A.I. calls Australian Rules Football Rugby. |

AI might not be precise with information, but it leads you in the general direction of information, it does have its use.
For more precise information, you keep on researching. I find it ok at times for a quick response to my own inquiries. |

Technically, 98 is the highest octane fuel commonly & readily available in Australia.
But that said, its hard to argue against artificial intelligence when the majority of the population either lacks intelligence of their own, or the ability to use what intelligence they have.

Im quite impressed with what I see some in the office do with AI.
Blokes with no code experience whatsoever, getting deep into some of our programs / apps we use to manipulate them to help make life easier and with faster outcomes. Still no replacement for learning how to do to it properly, but what is "properly" when they are getting the results? |

Yeah, works real good hey... NOT.
![]() Had an issue with subtitles on the new TV when I passed the remote control to her. Was watching iview, and all of a sudden the subtitles start showing.. when as of 5 seconds before passing the remote, they were not displayed.. Thing is, it was only in iview, not on TV, not on Netflix etc. Half an hour wasted just to figure out that there is a CC box at the bottom right of the screen, while watching iview and possibly every other 'app'. I must have inadvertently pressed the 'enter button' when handing her the remote.. and it started showing subtitles... Drama, fixed it, but I want my 35 mins back dam it!!! ![]() So resorted to the above screen shot, and after them asking for $2.00, and me saying fsck dat biacth I sussed it out. I decided to see what would after I was asked the question... Hi what's up with the tv blah blah blah... AI is garbage. That's what I think. One angry Mad Man

At least you didn’t use it to create an image of “Our Franco” as Frank N Furter.
![]() I’m firmly in the side that believes it’s overhyped, under-delivering once you go past the “Captain Obvious” levels of response. A lot of this stuff belongs with the Emperor’s new clothes - too many people with a vested interest at some level, who are unwilling to call it for what it is. But that’s society; we’re plummeting enthusiastically towards the LCD with no clue about life thereafter. |

Not all chatbots are AI driven. Virtual assistants and chatbots have been operating for a long time, long before AI became mainstream.
To get the most out of AI, you need to ask it to do something intelligent ![]() We are being encouraged more and more to use AI at work. I tell my boss it will take 2 days to said task. He tells me "just use co-pilot, it'll take an hour" ![]() I only use AI when I get stuck. I'm not confident that the engines behind them have been configured to produce unbiased results.

AI is tool and you need to learn how to use it to get the best out of it like any other. How the model is trained and how it is prompted determine how you do so. Biases and hallucinations are a problem.
I don't yet use it daily as I simply don't have tools available but as a developer I can already see how it has promise to improve productivity through some courses and research I have been doing. I can use it to explain errors and offer fixes, prompt it to generate simple bits of code, it improves code completion and also generate testing data. If you bought shares in Nvidia a while back you're laughing all the way at the moment and that is in large part because big tech companies buying up shitloads of GPUs. It is one of the best use cases for cloud computing. |

Another reason I think AI is rubbish...
OR Should that read: why I think Google is rubbish, but I will argue that Google uses AI.. After watching the Terminator II movie a few days ago I started thinking where is James Cameron now? And this is what it said: ![]() And the other beef I have while on the T2 subject is Netflix. Every time I watched it on Netflix, something was different, some scenes were missing, I started to think my memory is going. Turns out the T2 edition DVD I have is a 'Special Edition'. It has the scene where Arnie pulls out his eye ball, and where Sarah opens up his 'CPU' port in his head to turn his chip from read only to read / write, so he can learn. Both of these are missing when watching it on Netflix.I suspect it has something to do with the rating of the movie. M rating versus MA 15+.

I would not use Google for AI.
Use one of the dedicated AI LLM's like Chat GPT or Deepseek, and you will get a lot better answer. Grok might be better in this case as it can get results off X but I did not use it. It is a little vague, but paints a picture. If it said exactly where he was at the time of the search, it would be concerning. Answer based on 37 sources which is great research in less than a minute, and listed them all separately. ![]()

If you want it to use real AI ("intelligence"), then tell it to write you a movie script that has James Cameron in it, where he saves the world by driving a Ford, and how his pet dog destroys all the terminators. The result will be somewhat "intelligence". ![]() PS. T2, my fav movie of all time, can recite pretty much the entire movie. And agree they shouldn't have cut that scene as it explains why he was able to learn to not be "such a dork all the time".

I haven't been mentally great lately, so I had a good discussion with Whattapp's AI about a few things.
I got into a great discussion about Star Control II, and its responses were pretty good. I was able to counter-argue its outlook, and it acknowledged my reasons and corrected itself. It was pretty responsive. There's a lot of AI crap out there and its still unrefined in many ways. I think some will do it better than others. Some will end up like an Alabama family though. In time, it'll probably work out somehow. If it doesn't, well, Skynet will rise and destroy us all. We probably deserve it as well.
