when i was in tassie at christmas time they werent exactly over endowed with water.seems funny how every time lake eyre is wet we have above average rainfall .wouldnt it be easier to divert water from the annual northern floods down there and let nature take its course.

So the cost of the N/S pipeline + Desal plant would'nt be enough to cover the Tas project..... I doubt it..... Oh and there would actually be some water in the pipe when the pumps are turned on... Now would'nt that be great!!!!!

Diverting water is not exactly nature's course.

The water supply problem in Tassie was brought up in the videos. There is always water in the dams, just none falling on the farms. The money made from selling water to Vic could help pay for upgrading their water infrastructure which would help get more water to the farms.

Desal is the way of the future, and yes i have tasted desal water and it's far better tasting and cleaner than the water i currently get at my tap. Like someone said only problem with a large desal is the amount of power it takes to run it, but the solution here is (also like someone mentioned) nuclear plants.

You mean the two way pipeline that was to be used in either direction, depending on where the water was required, even though it was only fitted with one way pumps and piping that didnt suit two-way water flow?
Maybe he could spend some $$ on it and turn it into what labor had promised in the first place. Then any excess from the desal plant can be pumped up to the river to increase flows.

Now if only he would take an axe to the desal plant and cut the losses on that stupid waste of money. So many more options that wouldnt have the massive ongoing running costs, or the increase of electricity usage of the desal plant. And our water would maintain it's great taste.

imo its just lucky we had some rain this year and not so hot tempretures, had the drought continued and we were down to 24%
? water capacity, the desal plant could have been a life saver, not only that, another 10 years time they are expecting population to have another million people in melbourne, even if its not used we need a back up.

and the goddam stupid pipeline was pulling water from the Goulburn River which is the mouth of Eildon and Eildon was at 7%, how smart is that.

The Goulburn Valley is the food bowl of Australia, yet that ****** Brumby was ready to sacrifice all that so that Melbourne could have water, what would he have done after they sucked Eildon dry, use the pipeline as a train line? FFS!!!!

Pipeline was a waste of time and money imo, better ways to collect water. Pipeline hasnt been used in months, and in an earlier post of mine I mentioned that the pipe was severely damaged last year or before due to lack of care during construction, it's hardly ever ran at capacity.

Eildon is at 69% full at the moment, probably 70% after this weekend. Yet last week during minor flooding of central and north Vic, yet they let out 1000's or megalitres to "flush out black water" from the Murray (tannins and rotting leaf litter from the embankments that washed into river), which the rain would do anyway?

Most houses need to have water tanks installed now that hook up to your dunny/laundry to pass certian energy saving requirements, I'm not sure if factories, buildings, amenities etc in city areas have to do the same? If they implemented that in a lot of places it would be a start to saving a lot of water.
