6 cylinder
The Cyclone V6 engine is very disappointing as it has around 50Nm less then the Barra I6 engine. The torque figure is similar to Holden's Alloytech lump. 8 cylinder The Hurricane engine is an unknown quantity as it is not yet in production. However it has to be better then the current 5.4 litre V8. FF |

339Nm, wow, back to 1988 torque levels 3.9CFI.
339 @ 4500 rpm. 60Nm too low, 2000rpm too high. Pathetic excuse for a family 6.

You also have to think who made the decision to reduce the bore spacing on the current modular line. Seriously, they should be shot.

If thousands of cars running about dosing wouldn't worry Ford's warranty department, and all costs asdide, the SI6 Engine would be cool.

Gee that was quick. Somebody has already made a link in wikipedia between the next Falcon and the Cyclone V6 engine.

Here's a Volvo 6 with 228kw and plenty of torque for towing.

The 2008 Mazda CX7 for Australia will be getting the 3.7MZI apparently rather than the 3.5 as is current. Fair to assume the same engine will end up in Taurus X.
I'd vote for a Direct injection 3.7 Twin Turbo for premium with the 4.0L I6 continuing in LPG guise at least in ute, wagon and maybe Territory till 2012 at least. |

Maybe there'll be a 4.0L version ready by 2010 if we're lucky. The patrol's 4.0L V6 has like 198kw and 385nm if thats anything to come by.

Well, they have 3 years to work on the engine for our conditions now that its official, so upping displacement to 3.7 or maybe even 4.1 (since the 250X-flow was upped from a 3.3 so no problem) would take care of the total torque rating, then they'll just have to get the torque RPM's down from 4500, ugh.

next best thing to being official, basically saying that development on the engine doesn't have to be kept secret, they can just go and do what they need to without having to worry about unintentionally revealing it.

Smaller capacity engine maybe a 3.2lt better on fuel less power but a base model starting point.. I was going to say V6 with I6T for the Sport luxo range but it's going to be hard to fit a V6 and I6 under the same bonnet without some massive gap between the engine and radiator support.
Don't know about the 8's but anything sounds good, The Boss would be looked at better if the I6T was never made.

I bet the Cyclone V6 will be a significantly better engine by the time (if) it gets into the Falcon. I dont think it would be a bad thing personally. The low-end torque problem would be offset by the fact it would be a high revving engine that revs so quickly to peak torque it would emulate off the line grunt.
As for the V8, it will have to be spectacular to make up for being stillborn for so long, and the immense ground the competition has made in this area. |

Our 91 RON = 86.75 octane by US standards Our 98 RON = 92.25 octane by US standards (their best PULP is 93, so its *slightly* better then our 98).

The performance variants are the long term problem. For Orion model there will be no V8 Falcon models as the V8 will only be available on the FPV models. So Ford will be pushing the Turbo 6 cylinder engine for those people who want more power then the standard engine but don't want to go the full monty and get a FPV. If it is true that the I6 will be killed and replaced by an imported V6, then this is a big problem because beyond 2010 there is the prospect that there will be no V8 Falcons and no Turbo 6 Falcons (the way things currently stand).
Did I hear somebody say 1982? FF |
