Default I wish I'd been born 30 years earlier

Not only would I be richer, I probably would have died before the Falcon.
Remember when the announcement of a new car or model was actually exciting? And the latest optional extras actually ADDED to the driving experience.

I could have actually had a house with a YARD and a SHED.

If I keep going, buying new or near new cars, the last car I own will be some tiny plastic bubble running on static electricity or radio waves.
Then I will spend my dying days in a "pod" in some 21st century "geriatric storage facility."

If I win lotto, I'm going to buy a service station, and a fleet of old American cars running 460's.

I really don't miss having to ask for a non smoking seat on an airplane like I had to 30 years ago.

Or the 13-17 percent home loan interest rates.

I really don't miss the VB commodore and the XD falcon, they handle so well and were so "frugal" on fuel.....NOT

I don't miss the car makers ability to respond to emissions requirements by having a belt driven air pump to pump fresh air into the exhaust pipe so that a cubic metre of exhaust was cleaner...LOL

give me 2014 any day...

I sometimes drive an old 6cyl XD with 93kw (when it was new, now its probably got 60kw) and its more fun than driving a car with 4 times that much !

Good luck getting 400rwkw in a car that does 12l/100km and can carry your family safely & reliably 30 years ago.

Life was simpler back then but hindsight is a powerful thing

It's called nostalgia, things weren't better then, just simpler and more fun, but more dangerous. Times when you could lock brakes, mod the car without facing gaol time, and pollute the universe and nobody cared

I miss the days where you could play with lead based painted toys that would accumulate in your Testicals for the next 70 years.

But seeing/hearing an XW/XY GT for the first time would have been a buzz. Throw the Sunny Boy down and run straight to the dealership.

Well, we're told it's progress. I don't know really, starting as an apprentice mechanic in 1966 I've seen a massive change in motor vehicles.
I worked for Ford in the days of the XW/XY HOs, they were something different then but I'd have a modern day Ford over them now.

That's obviously why 22 ash trays are needed. Littering ciggie butts has obviously been caused by a lack of ciggie butt receptacles in motor vehicles.
*insert bogus research here*

WHY? I will still have my old age, at least you get to drive decent cars in your dotage.
Owning a petrol driven car will probably be a criminal offence by the time I'm you're age.

But not to worry, replacing my genitals with a fruit tree and marrying my pet snake will be considered "equally valid lifestyle choices."

Not necessarily. It would be the height of ignorant hubris to assume that all technological advancement is progress, and that all progress is good.
Half the problems we're trying to fix have been caused by what we thought was "progress" 50 years ago.

Agreed. I wouldn't call food additives and the multitude of preservatives they've surreptitiously slipped into and onto just about everything you buy, progress. Same with growth hormones in livestock, little girls becoming menstrual at 7 and 8 just ain't right. The rise in diabetes and cancers as well as numerous neurological and physiological ailments that were virtually unheard of 50 yrs ago can arguably be attributed to all these man made substances we're being unknowingly forced to consume. Same for GM crops, I'm not sure they're a good thing. They may increase yield etc. but who knows what it may do to us in the long term. I could go on but you get the idea.... all in the name of "progress".

........or maybe that should more rightly be labelled money and profit!

Dazz, I agree with you a lot of technological progress has in fact been bad for the earth... but environmentally speaking, we've come a long way since GT-HO's ruled the road.

Half the reason for global warming and all the other associated climate and environmental issues that go with it, is because too many people are cutting down too many trees. The trees are the lungs of the world and absorb all the carbon and produce all the oxygen and this world is being killed slowly from lung cancer all in the name of progress and profit. All the recycling and emission controls and good intentions from the concerned few won't mean a damn when the last acre of rain forest that tips the balance gets cut down and burnt.
All the environmental controls and emissions reductions are all well and good but until we stop the cancer from spreading and reverse it the world will stay on the slippery slope to oblivion.

Geez, now I'm depressing myself.......

I know you're depressed, but you are way off the mark if you think planting more trees or not cutting more down will fix anything.

The fundamental problem is over population...exponential numbers of people all vieing for limited resources is frightening.

Simple isn't it? have only one baby in 20 years everything fixed.

There is no hope though...it won't happen..

that's why I am off after typing this to burn up some turbo boosted unleaded while I still can afford it...

Back to the topic. Kinda glad I was born early 60's. The techno stuff that is being thrown at me is not a problem, but many in the generation before me find new technology a bit of a chore.
If we could have held the planet in the 70's, it would have been great, if only that the population was 4 billion, something we could comprehend and may have found sustainable with todays technology.
If I was born 30 years earlier, I'd be 81 - crimney.
