Default Scanners?

Hubby and I are thinking about buying a scanner. Not one for the PC, but one for our listening pleasure along the lines of eavesdropping

I have seen them on ebay, but have no idea what all the specifications mean. I'm not talking about a heavy duty one, but one just for fun.

So, I am asking you all, you're the Yodas to my Luke Skywalker - teach me! And suggest cheapies that do the job without being supercrap.

Have a look in Dick Smith they carry a large range to most price brackets.
I would suggest Uniden however give that almost all of what you might listen to has gone digital you might be up for at least $300.00.

yeah check the area your in. alot of metro areas have gone digital. a digi hand set will set you back a minimum of $800 and even then you probably wont be able to listen to the police channels.
stick with the major brands like Uniden, Icom, Alinco, Motorola, Kenwood and AOR. try and stay away from radio shack kind of brands.
also pop into here and check around for info and or ask questions.
