Maybe the coil pack?
If they are cracked, and you do a degrease/wash, water gets in and stuffs them up. Extreme

buy a tin of crc556 or similar water dispersant give your leads and high tension stuff a squirt , pull distributor cap off give inside of the cap a squirt, if you can get leads off easily one at a time spray inside the boots as well and give it a try , water does seep in, if water is the problem that should get it firing, only other thing i can think of is sometimes high presure water dislodges wiring, id try crc first goodluck

Just check that the fuel pump is running i washed my engine and got water in the fuel pump relay. You should find it near the battery next to the radiator reserve tank it is usually green.

i'll be the dizzy for sure! try spraying it with wd40 first cause that's a hell of a lot easier than removing the dizzy cap. You should wrap the dizzy in a plastic bag if your gonna wash the engine bay.

This happened to me in exactly the same way and the coil had died. quite a common problem. they get acrack in them the you mostly cant even see and a bit of water, dead. mine was an xh ute at 130k. my ed did it at 170k. Try your spark, it may still have spark but not enough for a high output ignition. the spark must be able to jump 10mm for test as under compression in the cylinder it is harder for the spark to jump the gap. Use an old plug and bend the prong straight out for test. Also had the carbon piece in the distributer being so worn it wasnt touching the rotor. Just a tip, the cap is that much of a pain to get off replace it along with the rotor button for good measur while your in there. Also helps to take off the idle up solenoid and snorkel for easier access. Good luck.

Problem solved. Had to get a mechanic to come out to my house to fix it. It was a cracked coil that caused it but I suppose I can't complain since it has never been replaced in the 400,000 kays the car has done. Thanks for all your help guys.
