Default EL Courtesy Passenger compart lamp stays on

HI Guys,

My '98 EL Wagon Courtesy Passenger compartment lamp stays on when all the doors are closed. No, the dash switch isn't in the on posi. The light stays on with tailgate closed when selected to door or on. Posi Off it stays off. Any ideas.

Thanks again, Bob

It should fade out after 25 seconds... Did the problem just come up or was it always there?
Probably one of the switches in the door frame could be stuffed and grounding when its not meant to be grounding(ie when the doors are closed)

Have a look inside each door for the button, unscrew it (does the EL have screws on the module?) and see which one could be touching the body.

Do you mean the courtesy light in the back of the wagon above the tailgate?

because the one in the ED XR wagon stays on all the damn time. The switch in the tailgate mechanism is stufed and keeps the circuit powered up all the time.

Just to recap, I think there are two seperate issues but not sure on the EL if the door lamp circuit is tied in with the tailamp circuit? I know on the EB they are seperate.

1. The tailgate light stays on when in either of the "on" positions and off when in the "off' posi.
2. The passenger compartment light stays on all the time regardless of doors closed and instrument dimmer switch posi.

Any ideas would be great. Thankyou, Bob

Something is definately earthing somewhere. Remove the acutal light and check no metal parts have come loose and are bridging an earth to the light. Do the same with the tailgate light, they are crap and always break. Otherwise it's probably a door wire, have you had anything installed lately that could have damaged a wire and caused it to earth?
