Default HELP, im trying to set up an internet page

i am trying to set up an internet page, we have brought the hosting and the domain name. but when you access the site it comes up with an index, of all the stuff that has been uploaded.

what i want to do is get rid of this index, so when you go to the site, the actual site appears(its just one page at the moment, and it redirects you to a forum)

does anyone know how to fix this problem all help will be appreciated.

cheers shane(AUXR8220/eb5speed)

Is there an index.html, or default.html file in the directory? This should be the default page(s) that are loaded. If you don't have one, then create one that has a bit of javascript in it to redirect the page to where you want it.
As for what Javascripot, Google is your friend!

browse your site with an FTP client (like cuteftp or smartftp)

You should be able to find the folder with the current placeholder page in it. Should be in something like public_html/www/ but I'm probably wrong. Back this up and then delete its content, you can then upload your own pages.

I can't see any HTML files or any other files for that matter, in you root directory, make sure there is an INDEX.HTML

make the page you want to display (your home page) called index.html

browsers look for this when a url (ie: www.modifiedfordclub.org) is entered into the address bar

are you using a portal , or any free or paid software.. or just building the index file yourself?
going to : http://www.modifiedfordclub.org/

and going to : http://www.modifiedfordclub.org/index.htm

both come up with:

..edited some things out

The source for that is quite stange too. I don't understand the code, but it isn't HTML.

There again, I don't understand much more than HTML anyway.

What type of forum is it? It looks like some kind of weird php variant.

If it was mine I wouldn't bother trying to fix it. I'd just delete everything off the server and start again from back up copies. But then again, I'm totally anal about backing stuff up.

And so should everyone be.

Is it a new site you are trying to set up? Was there nothing there beforehand? If not, then perhaps deleting everything off the hosting site and starting again might be a good place to start. If there was something there before, be careful deleting stuff and make sure you have a backup first!

Ok - I've just interpreted SOME (and only some!) of that code and it would appear that there is a problem with the database.
Pretty much all forums run from some kind of database (usually mySQL) and it appears that the site cannot read your database.
Are you sure you have everything installed correctly.
