Hi all,
can anyone recommend me a good quality UHF radio? I need one for both club and AFF events. I understand quality costs money so i am not adverse to spending some coin to get a decent one, but I don't want one that I need a degree to use. Any suggestions for particular models or stores to buy one are appreciated. Cheers Envi |

I take it you want a hand held and not an In-car unit.
Get a GME or Uniden hand held and you will be fine Don’t wast your time with the .5 Watt-1 watt units, spend a bit of money and get a 2 or 5 watt unit so you can have a bit of range with the thing, something like the UH056 or TX630 Cheers. |

I bought a 5km one from supercheap for 30 bucks. Its what I use on our cruises, and when long distance driving, and it works great.

I love mine at the moment, i got a Uniden UHO44 for only $80 with extended warranty from Dick Smith's last year. Its got half decent range for a handheld with 2watts transmit. It uses 3AA's and is pretty light on the juice.
You can get cheaper ones from Supercheap with 0.5w for about $30 but their range is crap and i figured the nicer one would last longer

The best hand held would be the GME TX6200, , about $350 .....

I've got a GME TX6200, great UHF. Only thing I'd recommend is get a desktop charger when you buy it, the trickle charger takes hours to charge it, whereas the desktop one takes 1 hour.

Chris there are some you can get for under $50 (usually 2 units also) from places like Mitre 10 etc...
You don't need an extremely flash or expensive unit for cruises to be honest. Good luck with whatever you decided though.
